hey guys,
I'm replacing my camshaft retainer cause I busted it when I removed it. So I've got spare head here with a complete retainer setup. Now I picked out the rubber seal, and got the camshaft out of the head. I can't seem to find a way to remove the retainer off the camshaft, without breaking it off. How the hell does it comes off?
thank guys
the clip your talking about is actually part of the retainer it's all one piece
there must be some knack to doing it without breakinging it?

im 99% sure without the seal in there it just falls out, from memory there is no circlip or anything like that.
i actually just had my cam half out, so i could of checked but too late now.
I've attached a pic guys, but I can't see anyway for it to just slip off. I've removed every trace of the rubber seal. It spins around but won't budge without force. Not sure if I need to heat up or if it's pressed in??. Desperate to get the bloody thing off
Here's a pic

LOL rubber mallets. Some of you guys are a worry.
As said simply remove the seal completely. There is a section in the retainer that is notched out, slide the retainer up into this section and the cam should slide out.
Refit is the reverse, slide the retainer over the cam into the notch, slide it up and replace the cam seal.
Should take you 5 minutes, theyre a piece of p1ss!
yeh man did this not long ago. only thing holding the retainer in is the seal, so once thats off it should just slide out. the seal goes pretty deep into the retainer so make sure its all gone
hey guys, got the retainer off. That seal was my problem, i though I had it picked out, but I hadn't. In the end I used a blowtorch for a couple minuted to soften the rubber and the rest of the seal fell out, definately the quickest way to do it. So thanks for everyones help with it, now I can get my car running again
