i realy like the vs shape but in my personal opinion getting abit old i guess its realy a matter of finding a well kept one. most of em have high kms, and i dont think the ecotec is a strong motor with alot of life in it

very reliable cars, iv seen them at 300,000+ still going strong

There smooth cars to drive, nothing wrong with them. Even VR's are still good cars if kept maintained. Just as long as you don't buy a clapped out one from a p-plater you'll be right.

Hard to find in manual... A mates parents had one had no probs with it, they used it to tow boats and caravans with. trying to find one with good k's is the biggest problem, Im not sure what your budget is but maybe try goin for a VT, My best mate picked up a stock Acclaim for $6000.

I had a VS 5 speed. Really nice car, very reliable. Only problem I had was the cooling system. It took a good beating at 250000K's, did a bottom end bearing and dropped a lower K's motor in it. Never had any issues with the gearbox.

id say theyd be far more reliable than the VR's.. no?

great cars, just watch for leaking power steer pumps

thanks guys, great response. To the guy who said maybe look at a vt, i enquired around for ages about getting a vt and got a long list of problems with them and 1 guy said to look around at a vx lol, my price range isnt high enough for a good vt-vx. Again, thanks to everyone who replied.

Very good value, you could be surprized just how quick a healthy ecotec goes but like anything dont buy a heap of sh#t cheap then find out you have fix stuff on it.

ive had my vt for around 1 year now and had to pretty much add half the container of power steering fluid, twice since ive had it!, dont think i have any other leaks, none on driveway anyway. lovely car to drive, plenty of power when you want it, especially with power mode on. not sure about others but mine drinks the fuel, last time a checked it was something rediculous, anywhere from 15 - 17L/100kms. V6 3.8L driving easy too. car has only 137000kms, must be sensor stuffed or similar.

i owned a vy ss and it used about 15-17l/100kms when i was flogging the sh1t outa it and as low as 9 on the highway so there must be something playing up on your car

If your going to get any ecotec v6, id reccomend getting a manual atleast the rear mains arent common on them. If you want a manual i suggest getting a VS s3, they came with getrag box's which are in the VT's, VX's....but dont go into the path of a s1 VT especially auto. goodluck mate

boostn vl: the thing is is that the car runs perfect, idles fine etc the only thing that concerns me is when idling for a while it will nearly stall, revs go down then back up the 750rpm, only for a split second, and engine light comes on and stays on until i drive off.

My VS V6 has done around 350,000 and the motor is still goin strong, the only trouble I've had is it's blown 2 transmissions, but that is with alot of towing.
