Expect 400-410rwkw on an LS1 and 430-460rwkw on an LS2 at low boost.
Thats on 10psi.
Ok, so you need a fuel pump, injectors and a tune.
I think that this is an awesome kit. Does anyone know how reliable they are? I'd imagine if theyre advertising it that the bottom ends arent dropping thier guts.
Hrrrm... HQ LS2 conversion, Twins = low 10s easy lol...

There are a stack of them that people use as daily driver's. We got to drive Martin Donnon's own VE TT daily driver and the amount of power, while excessive for street use, was totally useable. It came on gradually and on the whole the thing felt very strong. I think when you start pushing more boost the bottom end cries enough, but provided you've got a healthy motor to begin with, the kit as a bolt-on upgrade makes a lot of sense.
It's not only the kits that are good though, you've got to remember how well the LS motor is engineered for a stocker.

ive only ever heard good things about there kits, even if you do need to pull the motor apart and slap some forgies and rods in they are the easiest motor to rebuild

Only thing that dissapoints me about those kits is the fact that they use the factory exhaust manifolds. Although they still make the power so guess it doesnt matter that much.

At least this kit has half decent turbo's.The others iv seen advertised run KKR turbo chargers.

Using the factory exhaust manifolds is fine. The problem on a VT through to VZ is clearance. THe VE is fine. We have done our own kit on the VT-VZ and hold the current un opened recored of 10.5 and the car made in excess of 440kws @ the wheels through a 4 speed auto.

How long has it been making that power for FRASHD? How many K's?
Thats huge power. Youd never bother going N/A if you had an LS in good nick.

It was making that power for over a year. I can't remember how many k's though. Changes have been made now that do not qualify it to be un opened.
The only issues with an auto is even a built auto can take 350 all day long. In the end we were seeing a flair on 2-3 gear change.
Our own ute runs a 9.97 still running IRS with a kit that you could put on a customers car.
Personally I think it's a bit to much for the street. If we can't leave the line on a prepped track at any more than half throttle then what hope does a customer have on the street.
But Yes forced induction is the way to go. Having said that we recently done a 5.7 (none strker) mild head work, stall, right cam, exhaust, and it runs 11.5 all day and feels like an animal on the street.

What cam were they running? Something low-mid 230's? I'm looking at going the 224/228 for a while and then eventually bolting a T51 or putting a HH122 on it later down the track. 10's are my goal.

Haha yeah the factory exhaust manifolds make **** turbo manifolds
Pretty sure Jake's Torana uses cast factory headers as exhaust manifolds and makes 1000hp at the wheels. Everyone puts **** on factory manifolds, but they're underappreciated. LS1s, Holden V8s, RB30ET - none of these cars have trouble performing using the factory exhaust manifolds.

The camshaft you pick now will make a large difference later on.
Quick way to see if a cam is boost friendly.. There is alot more to it but its a start.
I will do a popular comp cams grind for boost and n/a
224/230 580"580" 114LSA
Add the duration of the intake and the exhaust
So 224 + 230 = 454
Divide by 4
So 454/4 = 113.5
Take away the LSA from that figure.
So 113.5 - 114
= -0.5
Then times the end result by 2
So -0.5 x 2 = -2
That is the degrees of overlap in the valves. As you can see there is negative overlap. Ie the valves dont overlap. Not a bad camshaft for boost.
In regards to the turbo kits you decide to purchase, spend some time talking to people with the kit and get the opinions on it and how it drives etc. Some of the kits that are available are crap. The amount of engineering that went into them was pretty piss poor in my opinion. The new ASE kits are quite good. Jakes Performance is also doing a drive in drive out (so injectors fuel pump tune everything) for $10k. The car he completed it on is also fully insured/engineered/adr'd/emmisions compliant in the ACT. Not quite like some others that have just proved it can be done on one car and told the world how good they are. This was the customers car.
As to how reliable they are all depends on the tune, and the abilty of the rest of the installtion to keep up with the air coming into the engine. Drop a fuel pump on full noise and the thing will blow a ring land gauranteed.

For the money, I really reckon they are good kits and about bloody time. Marrano's in Sydney install quite a few, and I must say they look a million dollars. I guess in some part that comes down to the installer.
If these kits had been around before I started my project, I would simply have bought a new forged crate engine from Russo's or direct from Speedinc(which are now available 402/408ci with heads for like $7k), then ordered one of there LSTT-1000 kits and been done.

27-06-08, 15:39 GMT+10#14 Yeah been looking at ASE's kits, haven't seen the jakes performance set up. Martin now just does the manifolds, dump, crossover etc for single turbo set up for $1200-1400 or something around there which i was looking at getting and putting it together piece by piece instead of one big hit of 10k straight up.
Thanks for your help duke, that 224/230 cam is looking pretty good for boost. I'll have to have a chat to the guys at gmmotorsport and a send a few pm's to sonny, martin and other workshops about what cam they suggest for boost, cause there's not really much about cams for boost on ls1.com.au. Well not that i've seen anyway. I only want to do everything once and do it right.

It appears that you don't know how to read/read between the lines so I explain my comment.
If you note my second comment I said that they make the power so it doesnt matter. At NOpoint did I say that the factory headers are shit, but personally I would like custom built headers for the price that companies charge for kits, maybe add a G.
Now before anyone gets in a huff, yes I know R&D does into these blah blah blah. I can make my own manifolds and I believe in doing the work to my own cars so therefore the price is too great for myself. Yet for someone who doesn't want to get there hands dirty, this option is ideal.
I know a guy that does photgraphy for various mags and he was presnt for some back to back testing of LOG VS TUNED manifolds. Said the log manifold out-performed the tuned manifold.

27-06-08, 18:44 GMT+10#16 im looking at doing this to my senator, the kit looks very average under the bonnet though, not very appealing on the eye, where as ive seen one of the ASE kits installed by marranos, in a stealth type setup and it looked awesome, turbos sat down by the rails..very nice kit indeed.
does anyone know where i can get a little more information on the ASE kit? ive tried their website but all they have is information about their LS1 cooler kits!

When it comes to camshafts for boosted setups, its a bit of secret squirrel kind of thing. Its a pretty complicated art and alot of builders and so forth dont like giving away hard earned secrets to be spilt for free across internet forums. Speedinc do some nice off the shelf turbo cams. Thats where I would be looking
