"popping" when on boost

Got a problem with the calais. Every time it comes on boost (anything over about 4psi), the car will start "popping" very loudly as though its dropping a cyl. The popping is very uniform and not random. I have had the car off the road for about 3 Months and when I have put it back on the road is when its done this. Only thing I really did engine wise was to add a BOV into the intercooler piping. Thinking that the BOV could be opening way too soon I eliminated it from the equation by blocking it up - same thing with it "popping". The spark plugs are brand new about a week before it came back on the road. I pulled them out again - 3 looked perfect and the other 3 had a white residue on them. Any ideas ?????

Sounds like its running out of fuel and leaning out?

Could it be that the fuel in the tank has "gone off" after 3 months??

Most definately. Only takes a few weeks before it goes yucky. Get rid of the fuel thats in it and fill up again!

sounds more like a spark issue to me, check leads/coil etc. i doubt it would be the fuel after 3 months, i think BP officially list its shelf life at 12 months, but yeah cant hurt to run it low and fill up fresh anyway

I had this problem with my vl, most likely is pinging due to sh*t fuel, try using vortex 98 or something, imo dont use bp ultimate, i tried bp ultimate with my vl turbo and it was pretty **** It may not be the fuel but give it a try first before u spend money changing anything

Hey mate, if one of the only other things you have done is replace spark plugs, are they cheapies? Or iridiums, What sort of gap do they run they might not be sufficient. Also is it an original turbo with turbo injectors? It sounds like its not getting sufficient spark or its leaning out really bad which isnt good! Does the car blow smoke out the exhaust when you go run into the popping area. Has it got an aftermarket regulator on it or anything.

- Replaced Fuel with new BP Ultimate. Have used BP Ultimate exclusively for the 5 years i've owned the car without any problems before. - Replaced Fuel Filter. - Plugs are NGK standard replacement plugs gapped at the standard 1.1mm - never had a problem with these plugs before (car has been running same setup for a few years now). - Factory Turbo, Factory Turbo injectors, Factory computer, Factory Fuel Reg. The car doesnt seem to blow any smoke when it pops which makes me believe its a fuel delivery problem which is not good. Next step - fuel pump maybe? have the injectors cleaned?? maybe try some new leads and coil? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Next step - fuel pump maybe? have the injectors cleaned?? maybe try some new leads and coil? change the coil for a known working one, i put 2nd hand coil on mine once, was fine for a while and then i went to to take off from a set of lights and it just popped and back fired hardcore, slightest load and it would miss, lucky i had my old coil in the car coz it fixed it. 90% sure its spark, try get a video of it, might make diagnosing easy, swapping a coil is easier then change a fuel pump or injectors. you will find that the petrol station people get fuel from is usually the cause of cars playing up and not because BP is better then mobil or vice versa, i ran Synergy 8000 for ages, then swapped to BP and both were great fuels. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

its more of a miss than a pop but its consistent if ya hold for a second and it doesn't wanna pull hard.

i replaced 8mm for 10mm leads thinking it would give greater spark but i will change back for the sake of experimenting. My plugs are NGK BCPR6ES-11 and gapped to .8 as i have done for years. surely it wouldn't be fuel filter would it? im gonna replace it today anyways cos its been a while since i replaced it last.
