hey guys just wondering how many cars out there have manual steering racks installed?? i am thinkin about doing it for many reasons..... alot more space in engine bay and alot neater. one less belt on balencer since i need as much room as i can get and also very good down 1/4 mile... whats it like when crusin around i know it will be heavy when parkin ect but what about crusin speeds.... cheers

When i got a new rack put in the bt1 it was like having power steering. Easy easy easy... and gives you a much more direct feeling as to what the car is doing.

My brother inlaw did the conversion to his berlina for the above reasons. It really does look awesome having for neatness but the parking was really heavy. Cruising speeds wasn't too bad. Bearable but still heavier than power steering. Having wide tyres adds to how heavy the steering is, with 205 tyres its not too bad.

ive just changed my powersteering over, i've havn't had a pump in it for ages, and ages, as in the stearing rack leaked so we just drained it i actually find the manual rack to light, but anyways that's me!

ohh ok nice... i will be running calais rims most of the time but soon might be going for big rims.... and i was also worried about enter comps and doing motorkana and burnouts will it be heavy on steerin like if u loose a belt half way threw skid it just turns really hard?????? thanx guys

Its not that hard curtis. Obviously doing tight little turns like in a motorkana its going to be some work spinning the wheel around but theyre quite alright to drive around in. Should try the monaro... mini spool, 5000 stall and a boat anchor in the engine bay... thats heavy.

dude, if i can do motorkhana's with a empty powersteering rack and still be able to turn etc, i don't see a manual rack with 15's going to be an issue it's actually very light considering it's manual, my mums protons satria has heavier steering

mines manual steering, i love it for the reasons mentioned above, you have a much more realistic feel of what the wheels are doing. it's saved me a couple times in the wet actually the only time its heavy is paralell parking. but its really not a problem. (and yeah the bay is a hell of a lot neater without all the power gear) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
