Ok Ive got the IC&E ignition setup its all new, and its shit. I cant get a spark plug gap over .5mm, no matter what plug I run, currently I have a set of the race plugs in a number 8, still get spark blowing out if I gap the plugs over .5mm. Its all been tested and it all works as it should be, voltage is there exactly what IC&E told me it should be. What I want to know is what you guys are using instead of this shit? What needs to be done to use an msd? What part number is the right one, I think one has a rev limiter, is that the only difference between the 2? Can I still use some of the IC&E gear with an msd? I really dont know much about this side of things. Im not here to debate wether the IC&E gear is good or not, Im telling you its not working for my setup and I need some help from people that are using something different, not standard either. Thanks for your help.

Ok this isnt what you wanted to hear but I dont get why ppl insist on upgrading their ignition unless their running a full on serious setup?? Hasnt it been proven that the stock coil etc is good for 8's?? Unless the stock setup wasnt working for you then why upgrade?. The stock coil is already a performance item. Some ppl just think that anything stock is **** and that spending rediculous amounts of money on certain things will no doubt make your car better but its not always true. Its just a spark for crying out loud, theres no need to spend thousands of $$$ on rip off gear that cant even do the job aswell as the stock coil. End rant

Thats not a big set up at all

380 rwkw, nice. Yeh that was a bit of a rant but i should have asked if he was having any problems with the stock setup? And im really curious why the IC&E setup wasnt working well.

Surely something is wrong if the new setup isnt adequate? Instead of just saying f**k it and spending more money on upgrading again, maybe look into the source of the problem? Just a suggestion thats all. I dont know anything about your setup mate so I can only speculate, good luck with sorting it out. What specific kit do you have? i.e ICE 7000MC etc

have you had a scope hooked to the power feed to the coil when its under load? Firstly - Check coil charge times. If the coil is not being saturated properly regardless of voltage it will not fire the plug. This is the first thing to look for especially with aftermarket managment systems that are not setup correctly. Secondly - Run a current clamp to watch exactly what the coil is doing. You may have something simple like a dodgey connection and your voltage may be correct but the current may be struggeling. Also check the voltage kick back at the sparkplug when the engine is running and make sure you are getting at 10,000kv at the initial firing at the plug. Any Dyno/Diagnostic shop properly equiped with a scope should be able to tell you all this information in about an hour. There is probably a setup issue more than a component issue. Inductive systems are very powerfull when setup correctly. We are running over 20psi and 8000rpm with a Retuned ecu and single coil.

msd 6a or 6al if you want the two step limiter option as well at extra cost. can use the standard coil or ice coil and leads you have, and sell the ice booster and amp. msd is cheap and it works no fuss.

So the only difference between the 2 msd's is that the more expensive one has a rev limiter? Dont need that.

Do you have a map for your G3? They have smart coil charge times. Make sure yours is set correctly. Anything around 3ms is a good place to start. I definatily be looking there first.

Ah cool, where abouts is that located in the tunning sofware? Probabaly can check that out first. The only thing I can see is spark duration, its set at 1.0ms and dwell time is set at 2.50ms. Is that what your talking about?

try upping the dwell time to 4ms. Its better dont with a scope but give it a go.

Yeah cool thanks for the help, whats the dwell time do exactly? Its going on the dyno for a few runs on Saturday with a bit of luck, so hopefully I can fix a few problems ive got then.

Dwell time boosts the coil charge is the most simple way of explaining it. So effectively it becomes a stronger spark! Could have a lot to do with the problem you have!

Yeah just read up on that, love google. Seems like there is a fine line and quite alot of maths to get it right though.

I totally agree. The 6al is great product and the price makes it an attractive option. I couldn't believe the difference it made, money very well spent.
