Just wanting to know some info in comparing the drive line from a VL to a R31. What are the differences.. Can you fit a r31 box into a vl or is there things you have to change.. Just some general info would be great.. Engine Numbers, Gearbox, Any brackets..

Gearbox and transmissions in the NAs are the same, VL Turbo has different but will bolt into an R31. Tailshaft lenths are differant. All R31s have 28 spline and 4 discs, where only VLT has that. NAs have 25 spline with option for 4 discs. The diffs are interchangeable, the diff housings are not. R31s run a 9.5" flywheel like VLs, VLTs run a 10".

They are? thought they were classes as a pintara... That means an RB30ET convert in one of them would be legit ! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Gearboxes are not the same (ratio wise). I'm running a R31 five speed in my VL at the moment, and the ratios are higher. Edit: [T]Matty, the housings are not interchangeable between R31 and VL because or mounting points or length?

Oh and the VL/VLT diffs run a 3.45 gearset Manual and auto. VL V8s run a 3.08 R31s run 3.87s and 3.86s? i forget the exact number but the .01 larger number is known for its bad sounds and nissan made the other set to stop the sound... This might be the pintara diffs in talking, not 100% sure on R31/tara diffs.

Manual R31s run 3.7s, autos 3.9s. They had a recall on the 3.89s because they were noisy, even when new.

R31 Pintara have 4.11 diff ratio but are 25 spline, apparently you can still use the crown and pinion off one and stick it on a VL/Skyline borg warner diff centre. R31 Skyline Silhouettes have an LSD as standard but shag out pretty quickly whilst doing skids

Related: everything I know about Borgies. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=133721 Do you know about the length of the R31 housings [T]Matty? If they all run 28 splines axles a 4WD, they could be an excellent source of 28 spline axles for LSD conversions in VLs.

28 splines for LSD conversions? you can get 25 spline LSDs.. not sure about length but i would say no. as they are 4 stud and all..

Ah, when I do a conversion I do it properly. None of this 25 spline 2 pinion garbage! Fair enough on the studs though. (My VL's diff was 25 spline open drum, now its 28 spline LSD disc) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

no the numbers are the same, just the letter on the end is differant. you can tell an R31 motor a8 = vlt. forget the rest.. a is na? no a is r31?

S1@2 R31's use the same auto box as vl's, however S.3's use a electronic jatco very similiar to R33 turbo autos' etc, pretty strong box and cheap to upgrade for 300rwkw or less. cheers darren
