guys, car is off to have the autronics wired up, so im going to need to fork out for an ignition system. On the RX7 i had single bosch coilpacks running off the microtech so i wanted to go the multi coil route again, question is, how do i know if the computer is able to support that? Also for those in the know, if i ran multiple coils, am i going to need anything else, ignition booster/CDI etc? This is going to have to support 400rwkw+. Im pretty lost when it comes to ignition side of things so any help would be appreciated.

The autronic SMC has four coil outputs so if your running a 6 you will need to run wasted spark (two coils fire together in three sets) but you will need three coil ignition modules called Bosch 008's or a CDI ignition box with dwell control or you can do as i did and run a single coil through the dissy like the VL System. Note though that the Autronic doesnt have dwell control so you cant just connect coils directly to it. If you go the single coil give me a yell as i have a brand new bosch ignition ignitor module for the autronic still in box with receipt that ill do cheaper than the shops. Ps Autronic is an awsome computer and will transform your car.

haha, car hasnt been started in 7 years so i'd imagine it would transform it What im thinking, is running the 500R CDI box, with 6 bosch coilpacks, thats do-able right? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Haha i had a laugh at that one... Are you wiring it as sequential injection? I did this on mine and man what a difference, doesnt sound like a vl at all anymore, runs so smooth hey. Might be worth considering a M&W or yeah 500R box, maybe consider using three double ended coils, a falcoon coil pack or six coils ganged in waste spark mode. The new autronic SM4 computers can use a multiplexer which lets you run six ignition channels but your plain outta luck with the smc. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah thats all good, the MSD box i bought can run 6 coils individually so no waste spark required i believe? Should be right anyway i rang the autronic man up and he agreed it should come together fine, if not, meh, whats another couple of weeks right!

Actually you have a problem there because the autronic has only 4 outputs so theres no way you can fire six coils. Id say they will wire banks of two coils x 3 to fire at the same time.

so how does that work, 2 spark plugs fire at the same time everytime, even though only 1 of the cylinders is on the compression stroke?

DIS4 will run 6 coils direct SMC will do wasted spark without a CDI module (DIS4/500R CDI.etc) this might help..... Red line = 12v source (switched) ... ie only powered with key on 3 sets of black lines = 3 of the 4 outputs from CDI module are used to fire the coils..... so basically as ur motor runs say ur ECU fires plugs like above, the ECU will send switched -ve to output 1 then 2 then 3 then 1 then 2 then 3 for the full cycle yeah? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

very interesting mate, thanks for posting that up. Is there any problems running anti-lag systems with a wasted spark setup ?

Spool up why do you want to know about running anti-lag systems with wasted spark? Anyway anti lag will be fine with a wasted spark setup. Ecu wont spark No1 cylinder wich in turn wont spark No6 cylinder but it wont matter as its not on its compression stroke.

and i dont see the point of running antilag anyway, thats what the transbreak is for!
