Hey fellas, I just bought an aftermarket shifter on ebay and I'm scratching my head as to how it goes in As first glance I thought it would be an easy, remove circlip job and in with the new shifter, but it's not that easy. Theres some sort of base plate to it and I have no idea where or how it bolts up? The new shifter has a longer base and you can't use the original circlip to hold it in place. I think the base plate thing goes over the gearstick and bolts it down firm, but where does it bolt to?? Thats the thing I dont know. No instructions and the seller is completely useless. Thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Throw up a pic. I fitted one to a mates R34 a while ago, if yours is the same ill let you know what we did. It didnt fit up properly, had to modify it slightly.

If it has a retaining plate its compleatly different. Need pics

Here it is. As you can see it looks like the plate and the coupling slide over the gearstick to bolt it down securely. I havent had another look at it yet. Ill take off the manual surround plate and see what I can see later. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

by looking at it all you need to do it use the standard ring and clip to secure it ??

take the standard shifter out, via the circlip, slot it over this one, and it should fit?

Nah it doesn't. Because with a short shifter the selector part of it is longer making it a shorter throw. Because this is longer, the ball sits up higher and won't allow for the top bush and the circlip to hold it in. I wish it was that easy, though. For all I know I could have the wrong bloody shifter?? But I wouldn't know that because no papers or anything came with the kit.

I'd say you got the wrong shifter, I dont see how that plates gunna work.

Alright guys just had a look on ebay again. Going by the pictures my shifter is for a 180sx. The VL one pictured on ebay seems a lot more logical to put in. Something so ****in simple to send and they stuff it up!

i have fitted one of these...that kit pictured is missing a spacer ring that sits under the factory gearstick bush pushing it up into place -there is also a washer that needs to be taken out under the standrd bush i do believe. the shortened shifter unscrews in half then you put the smaller plastic ring that came with the kit in with the pointed edge facing down The plate and brackets with the 4 bolts then go over the gearstick with the brackets facing down as they lock into a recessed grove in the gearbox holding the whole thing together

I see what you mean ^^ seem like a dodgy way to retain it there?? Cant you get a short shifter for the MX7?? I cant imagine y people would want it any shorter anyway o well.

I'm not missing anything, I just didn't include the white bush/spacer thing in the picture. This is everything that came with my kit - exactly the same. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SHORT-SHIFTER...QQcmdZViewItem (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5335860158&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com.au%2FSHORT-SHIFTER-NISSAN-180sx-s13-s14-R31-R32-R33-R34_W0QQitemZ220241482803QQihZ012QQcategoryZ6763QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Here's how I'm goin about it. 1. I put in the gearstick 2. I push the white bush over on top of it with the pointy side down. 3. I slide the metal spacer on top of that 4. I bolt it down with the retaining plate via the little recessed slot. Now, when I do all this I can't move the shifter. It locks up as you bolt it down. The white bush is down hard against the ball of the shifter, but I wouldn't think that would matter as it's shaped around the ball. I can't believe something so simple can be so hard! Some others have had to modify the shifter for it to fit as seen in the sellers comments, but how you modify it, I'm not sure. I'm almost pullin hair out now.

^^Sorry mate, didn't really understand what you were gettin at, but yes it does seem like a pain in the ass. Was it the same kit?? So when you say cover, what cover are you referring to? And when you say hit down the retaining plate, why did you have to do that? Did you use the top bush as well? If I use that mine will just lock up as soon as I bolt it down. I thought maybe use the retaining plate upside down instead, but Ill need longer bolts then. Grr.

yeah man mine is the excact same kit got it from ebay last week cost me 100 inc postage, ok we took the circlip out and all the bushes n ****, the cover i mean is the long rectangle plate take it off pull the old shifter out and take the bushes and stuff out and we put the new 1 in and raised it with the plastic bush it came with but we also took out a clip thing that was in the middle (was a bitch to get out) and put the new 1 in with the plastic bush and put it in put the cover on and then put the new square 1 on and hit it down with a rubber mallet so it still has a lil bit of movement bit wont come out. its confusing as **** that is bout the best i can describe it for u, sorry buddy, good luck
