Go a JVC head unit.. cant find a better head unit then that. I have had 4 now, and about to get another one. All have been top of the range for the time. But even the low end things are the best on the market. Used alot of other brands and nothing is like JVC..

and no point having 6x9s with a sub. 6x9s are like for bass if you dont plan on having a subwoofer. start with a good quality headunit as your sound system will only sound as good as the headunit can be. decent speakers with a good headunit will sound better than good speakers with a crappy headunit. if you want a sub get good splits up front and some decent 6"s in the parcel shelf. run a high pass filter so the sub is putting out most of the bass and the speakers can be left for the higher frequencies. run the sub(s) and splits off an amp (or two) and run the rear speakers off the headunit. use decent wiring also. just save a bit more cash...for that little bit more youll have a much better sounding system.

Get any old Alpine Headunit better than anything else... reason?.... JVC make camcorders Sony make playstations kenwood make fridges Alpine on the otherhand make head units and speakers... 2x 10"subs, 6" midbass for the front, and tweeters for the front too, place the tweeters and speakers as far away from you as possible and as close to eachother as you can, dont ave the tweeters on the dash, and speakers in the doors. going by the rule that your subs shoudnt be more than 2 sizes larger than your largest speakers, and keeping the midbass and tweeters close by, should give you some better sound... also sound deaden the **** out of the doors

Thanks everybody, I've come across this head unit, which is only $200 but looks decent, heres a picture of it: Reason why i want that one is because of this: US Audio CD/DVD/MP3/USB/SD/AM/FM MULTIMEDIA PLAYER Play up to 1000 MP3's from a burnt DVD! Plus USB/SD/MP3 & movie playback, also plays DVD movies & other video formats for output to optional screens Is that any good? I don't want to spend **** loads on this system, I just want decent, And Sub / Amp isn't a worry for me, I'm getting my cousins AMP and SUB i was only going to get that pack because it was a package and would have had it all installed for me. I'm looking to spend around $500 for the head unit, front door speakers, and parcel shelf speakers. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Stick with a decent brand at least, you may not get features like DVD, but sound quality will be heaps better. You could pick up a lower end range Alpine unit for around $200 which will sound heaps better than that. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i find alpine have a very bad display to them.. the letters are too big and not enough on the screen, the back light also lights up the parts not needed making the screen hard to read.. they do not fast skid.. and are just not the best out there.. I got 4000+ songs on a my GAGADVD JVC headunit, Thats not the headunit i know, but in the add above it says Up too 1000, you can get many more.. im upgrading the the newer DVD, it has DivX decoder built in witch will be very good when burning movies and music clips.. i think it will read DVD9 also.. so thats more like 10k songs to one CD. Also the JVC video output is very easy to use and read.. making the 4000+ songs i get to a CD very easy to skid though as you go by folder and can see 6ish folders each way from the one your on. JVC is the best. no two wats about it..

Yeah ive got a Mid-Level JVC in My daily, really good unit, cant really fault it. Used to be in the VL, but I did notice that the Alpine in there now gives a little bit better sound quality. But still the JVC is pretty good. I just wouldnt be spending my $200 on some US AUDIO crap.

And sound ****, Now anyone correct me if i am wrong but werent headunits designed to run 4 speakers? I dont think you really know what ur on about mate it acutally will make it hotter, as its internal amplifers will be working, where as, if your running the rca outs, you wont be amplifying... either way its still stupid to say dont run ANY speakers off the headunit...as that is basically their purpose... besides...i suggested running the front speakers off an amp and the rears off the headunit because this guy isnt looking for a top of the line system...which is what GRK-WPN obviously forgot as he was writing up that list...idiot. amp the front speakers because as the driver those speakers will be closest to you, so you want the quality to be as good as possible. if you have a decent headunit the rear speakers will still sound fine running off that and they arent as important since you dont drive a car sitting in the back seat. fuck your rear passengers basically lol. and to repeat myself again, dont bother with 6x9s if you're planning to run a sub...6x9s are for bass as well. and whats the point of having 6x9s in the rear running with a high pass filter and a sub? no point. so... start off with a good headunit. good set of splits up front. some decent 6" whatevers in the parcel shelf. decent/good sub. amp the front speakers and sub. run rear speakers off the headunit. use a high pass filter for the speakers and let the sub handle the bass. use good wiring. and i doubt youll wanna bother with sound deadening...so ignore GRK-WPN. this, IMO, is a decent sort of setup when you're on a budget. im planning to do exactly the same thing except save a bit more cash for some better quality stuff. you really get what you pay for with car audio.

mate are you a wanker???? how the hell can you skimp on sound deadener, do you see competition SQL cars with bare metal doors? or do you see layer after layer after layer of that foil covered butylrubber? heres a rundown of my before and after experiences with sound deadener before any sound deadener added i was pumping 118dB with the above setup added sound deadner to the front doors, gained an instant 6dB making it 124dB with subs on the +4 level from ranges -10 to 0 to +10 sound deadened the bootlid and the boot walls and brand it upto 130dB added in a profesional equaliser for the subs and gained another 8dB with the subs on the -7level and half way turned up on the equaliser with the subs off with the same setup as above it was on 120dB alone just from the 6x9s in the ported parcel tray and the front components people underestimate the effect of sound deadener, i did aswel untill i got a few rolls of a mate, i nearly shat myself in shock asoon as i turned up that stereo, night and day difference so if you think that sound deadener is useless, then you have never used it before and should probs go buy some.... and yes running speakers off the headunit makes the internal amps hot as theyre under a load, when your running the rca outs theres no load to amplify, thus no heat and electrics always run better when theyre colder than hotter. dude for a half decent system your looking at a headunit a 4ch amp for front and rear speakers a monoblock or 2ch amp for subs 1 or 2 12" subs or 1 15" 6 1/2s for the parcel tray or 2 way components same for as above for the front. thats a nice setup to listen to, and when you feel like abit of heart stopping bass, crank it. oh and btw. a good cheap amp i recommend for subs is the bezerk amp from strathfield, they around the 200 mark and usualy cheaper, 600w rms and 1000w rms, i have the 600w rms 2ch amp bridged to 2 ohm and it cranks the doors off my kenwoods.....

FFS. read the original post again and understand what the guy is asking for.

headunit 200-300 front speakers 100 rears 100 both amps about 300-400 for not top of the line stuff but not sh1t stuff sub 100-150 sound deadener 150 which makes the sound twice as good..... he wants good sound quality at a decent level...... you cant exactly tell the difference before 50% volume but after that.... its noticable. and another 100 bucks for power wiring n sh!t

and he also said he doesnt want it particularly loud...so that point is moot. no-one is denying sound deadener is always useful, it makes a difference even on a completely stock system...but for what Josheh is after i think most will agree sound deadener is not required. it might sound better with it, but that doesnt mean it will sound crap without it. and plus its maybe $150 for sound deadener if you do it yourself, but maybe Josheh doesnt wanna pull apart his doors and everything nor pay someone to do it. you may know a bit about car audio GRK-WPN, but not everyone is interested in near top of the line stuff and making sure the quality is as good as possible as loud as possible. Josheh just wants something that sounds good at a decent level...stop complicating it further with unnecessary suggestions. seems to me your posts here are more of a strange ego stroker for you rather than helpful suggestions based on what Josheh has told us he wants. but Josheh can speak for himself and i think hes been clear about what he wants and IMO what you're suggesting isnt necessary. but well see what he has to say when he makes another reply.
