Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with my car at the moment. A few months ago for no apparent reason my battery would be drained if i didn't drive it for a couple of days or sometimes less. After getting the usual service I was told it was a faulty alarm system. Now, the alarm system came with the car, as well as the central locking, and I have no idea how it was or even how they're usually installed... Also, when the alarm was turned on i could press the horn and the doors would lock. I'm not sure what brand either the alarm or central locking is. First of all. Is it possible to buy a new alarm system, follow the instructions backwards for the old one and then install the new one? How much damage can i do by just rippin the whole lot out? Should I just take it to a auto elec? Or will they just rip me off? How much would/should it cost? Any tips n such would be appreciated of course. Cheers.

Im sure a good auto elec would be the go... I cant imagine it costing all that much to cheak it out, but i could be wrong. What make is the alarm? maybe its possible to get the install manual from the company, once u had wiring diagrams it wouldnt be to hard to track it back urself. I wouldnt be ripping it apart without knowing whats what.

well for starters i would try getting the part number/brand of the alarm and sourcing out a instructional booklet if you can, if its a rhino alarm, they email it to ya, couldnt be easier. anyway, have you found the alarm module? if u have, trace back where all the wires go and snip em off and tape em up at the splice for indicators etc so that you dont have an alarm to drain your battery, source a new alarm and install it up, aslong as you can solder and you have a gregorys/max ellerys book for your car with the wiring diagrams in it, you will be fine

It sounds like the battery isnt the best and is going flat with the small amount of power the alarm is using, get a new battery or booster pack for jump starting. You will need an elec to check the horn wiring.

Hey guys, cheers for the replies. Sorry it's taken so long to get back. I've found the alarm module. So so many wires coming out of it! Doesn't seem to have a brand or part number on it that I can see. Would it be worth opening it up? I dont think it's the battery as just before the service I had it replaced, but the problem continued. I think i'm gonna see if i can follow all the wires and cut them off, see what happens I guess. If all else fails I guess I could just go to the electrician.

Hey mate, a good idea would be to turn the alarm system off and see if the battery still drains. alot of them will have a little key that you put in and switch it to one side. It should stop all the sensors and stuff working at least.

Yeah i tried that, still seemed to be draining though. Did that before I had it serviced when the auto electrician said it was the alarm. Took off a connector from the battery which made the little light for the alarm to go off, but it seems to all be tied into my starter motor...
