Well as you might or might not know, I had major problems with my engine towards the end of last year. Started mostly when someone stole most of the petrol from my tank, and then I took it for a drive (without knowing), leaned it out and got some pretty mad pinging happening. I also had a mysterious fireball out my exhaust one night, which I think was the turbo saying goodbye. End result, a pretty screwed engine. So I didn't really drive it all that much from January onwards. I finally got to pull the engine out in March, and stripped it down... and found this... I'm sure there's something missing there? Oh there it is, in the sump... Sent it off to the engineering shop, and patiently waited to get it back. Nearly a month later, I finally got to pick it up. Here's what it looked like. So I put it together in the garage at my place... ...and whacked it back in the car last weekend. All I can say is that it's $3300 well spent! It's got ACL 8.5:1 forged pistons, king big end and main bearings, 0.074" Cometic MLS head gasket, standard prepped rods and it's all been balanced. Also has a KKR430 turbo which barely saw any use before I built the engine. Big thanks also to Ross from Brown's Engineering at Lawnton for doing the machine work and assembling the bottom end for me. His work is awesome, highly recommended. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Not sure bout the colours mate but top work, good on you for doing it yourself. Its most satisfying turning the key knowing you built the engine.

Good stuff man, not a fan of the colours but meh.. Would go well with the 430!

good stuff jordy, but you should have bought the tools and used the holden engine manual to put the thing back together. just get it balanced, faced and linished etc but assembly is easy! that's how you make a true "backyarder" engine anyway. lots of coin to drop on an engine for a uni student hey - i built most of my 25/30 while at uni and it was bloody annoying having $100 a week to spend on the car. now that i can waste greater amounts, i don't have the motivation. catch-22.

Yeah Neil I did have all the stuff to do it, I didn't actually ask for it to be assembled to short. I gave them the rest rotating assembly to send off to get balanced, and the next thing I hear from them is that it's all assembled and ready to go... only cost me $100 for the assembly, but I did kinda want to do it myself. And yeah, it's a massive chunk of cash to spend when there's hardly any money rolling in... I'm waiting for the box to blow up next I reckon.

hows the KKR turbo going?

Well it's still going, and it's better than the standard turbo. I can't really compare it much more than that...

It's a very sexy engine stand isn't it Justin? I'm still waiting on a new fuel pressure regulator and a dyno run before I give it the full weight of my right foot... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
