Im having a problem with my vlt 28spline open wheel diff.
If I push the clutch in while keeping it in 1st or 2nd and turn slowly
(parking) I get this crazy shudder from the rear of the car and gets worse as I let the clutch out untill its fully engadged.
I Fitted a Cushion brass button clutch/ 1400kg presure plate a few months ago and had problems with it dissengaging enought to get it into gear. I installed a new master cylinder and a smaller bore slave cylinder, I was able to change gears alot easier after that.
Now i got this shudder problem in the rear only while turning slowly with clutch to the floor in gear. I dont see how the clutch couldnt be disengaging enough as its fairly easy to put into gear.
yeh but it shudders with the clutch right in.
Put possible cos the diff is continously spining the right wheel when u boost it/ maybe its worn the gears heavily. Its funny it only does it when its in gear.
has 354rwhp
Maybe theres just enough load (by being in gear) on the diff for the spider gears to be put in a position that simply don't liek (ie: locking)?
Perhaps grab yourself another centre (and maybe a pair of axles, as single spinner 28 spline centres are hard to come by). Or even try an LSD.
Well ive been looking out for a lsd turbo centre that I was gunna get rebuilt & tightened up, Funds at the moment dont permit

Hmm possible as well as the load of one wheel going faster then the other ( turning ).

Are you 100% clutch is fully disengaging ?
Does it do this at slow speeds without the wheel turned ?
Does it do it if you were coasting at 60kms then pushed the clutch in ?
Will there always be a little load on the gear box/diff when in gear with clutch disengaged??
I would of thought the clutch should disengage fully putting no load to the gearbox/diff ??
Come to think of it my diff doesnt feel the same it did when the car was stock.
Theres never no load on the diff. By pushing the clutch in, you're separating the motor from the gearbox, leaving the load on the diff as the gearbox and tailshaft. If you put the gearbox in neutral, the load is half the gearbox and the tailshaft.
You could start by making sure your clutch is fully bled, then try another diff centre.

Like i said it feels like its dissengaging, I can put it into gear at a standing pritty easy (no grinding like it was with standard slave cylinder) and it changes well while im driving.
It does it a little in a straight line sometimes, but if im stationary it doesnt only with it in gear and clutch disengaged and moving.
Ill give that a go in the morning i dont think it does it if i coast at 60kmh in gear with clutch in.
I dont see how the clutch couldnt be disengaging i got new master cylinder new slave with more throw ???

Not to sure I understood the first bit?? EDIT: just read over it a few times and under stand what u mean, I meant load from the engine. I never thought of the load from the road lol .
Yeh Ill bleed it again tomorrow. I bleed it when i changed the clutch quite a few times.
I got Girlfriend to pump pedal a few times then hold it down then i opened and shut the bleeder on the slave cylinder. Did this 10 times or so and no air was coming out. Is this the correct way to bleed the clutch??

Yeh Ill have a good look at it in the morning with some light. I really hope its the diff, I dont feel like taking the gear box out again to cheak the clutch.
Im thinking its the diff, I dont think the spider gears cope very well with any power/ hard acceleration.
I still cant understand why it only does it if its in gear with clutch in? If its in neutral with clutch in I dont think it does it but ill test it out properly tomorrow and post up my findings.
Well I donno i drove into town today in my little Subaru Fiori 750cc fwd thing to pick up a lsd centre.
anyway
I was taking a right turn (fairly slowly) I hear a huge bang under the front left get up the road to the girlfriends house, take of the hub cap and the big centre nut with the split pin had snapped off at the base of the nut
Havnt seen anything like it before
Talk about bad luck now i gotta buy a hole new drive shaft/CV joint.
Like I said i have a worn LSD Centre are they easy to recondition urself or am I better off getting it done?? what price should i expect to pay to have it reconditioned and shimmed/tightened up?
I got a manual here might give it a read up tonight.

I took the cover off my diff the other day and got 2 mates to spine both wheels, spider gears are shaged there very sloppy and chiped.

I have pulled apart the Worn lsd centre i got off a mate, Was dead simple to pull apart and there is just the cones and springs and a few washers inside.
Have found new cones to suit it on Ebay $55 each. Also im going to go talk my old mans mate that has a transmission and diff shop and see how they tighted up the LSD, All i can see them doing is either installing a heavyer main spring or use thicker washers to shim up the spring to apply more pressure.
I have taken photos and do a little write up with the pictures.
Nice work man. It can be tricky, but give it a shot - you'll always learn something by giving it a go.
Keep us updated, this is a good read!

Does it shudder when in neutral while turning?? Could be a combination of a worn diff and clutch not 100% disengaging
Oops just read this post

The fact that it doesnt do it in neutral is a dead giveaway that you have clutch problems. The diff is still probably worn though because it still shouldnt shudder. I think its a combination of both.
