The biggest issue I have come across is to make sure the factory setup gets
good power free from corroded connections, a few people here have reported
over the years they can get that much power with factory setup *but* it
must be in good/excellent condition. Whenver adding aftermarket (souped up)
ignition they tend to add extra wiring but hey that gets around the older
wiring so who knows for sure if its really necessary...
If it was me, I'd be inclined to go for coil packs, ie One coil per chamber
then at least you wont have spark lead losses and only have to deal with
low voltage signals to fire the coil packs - I dont know of a drop in system
as yet that will suit the RB30ET but there are prob people out there that
can. I do recall seeing an RB30ET distributor/CAS with the cap off and some
cover over it - so I'm guessing it can be done - ie. Use the old CAS but go
for coil packs. As I said, I have seen a few with what looked like good factory
setup over the years pulling very good times and that would suggest good power as you are after,
cheers
edit:
typos
and adding that the factory coil is already considered a high performance item in Japan
and made by Hitachi/Miti for that purpose... But - it must be new for the sort of
reliability you'd want at that power.

I made 490rwhp on a stock ignition setup. Plugs are gaped down to .7mm. Doesn't miss at high revs but as soon as i open the plugs up slightly i run into a few problems!

Personally, Motec CDI. Not too pricey, plug gaps can be opened right up. fuel is burnt not waisted.
Extremely stable under high boost.
I am not saying 500 hp cant be achieved with out a CDI, A good test to do with a car idling before and after fitting an ignition booster is put a 4 or 5 gas probe up the tail pipe. It makes a difference not having to drop plug gaps.

Meh I wasnt too happy with mine, I cant gap a plug over .5mm. Wouldnt waste my money again, try standard gear and change it when you find it wont work.

I can relate to this, after we fitted the MSD 6A to mine, you could actually smell the difference out the pipe and the car sounded 'cleaner'.

Can't go wrong with MSD 6A or Crane HI6
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yours must be gay! I got zapped by one of these fookers with my finger over an inch and a half from the plug on the bench! Even FAGWGN is less gay!

Thats easily good enough for 500rwhp then LOL
Yeah mine had huge spark out of the car aswell, at AVO the thing was jumping 2 inches, yet in the car 25PSI and .5mm gap is all that works. Coil power was tested and was the correct voltage, everything is wired correctly aswell.

exactly the same as wat im running, have never had a drama. 1mm plug gaps.
