as above.
i thought there were pins in the hinges? after taking out the black plugs in the hinges and seperating the arm that holds the door open i am at a dead end.
i cannot feel any bolts inside the door frame and cannot see any inside the car itself. how do i get the door off???
They do have pins in them Mitch, but they're hollow tubes of steel (sort of).
Be prepared for a fight, because they're extremely difficult to get out. My $60 tool from Repco broke on the first hinge.
go to coventrys, get a pin removal tool (it's like $60 to $70 as mentioned above)
you will also need a blowtorch and some wd40. i cannot stress this enough.
the pins are split all the way down on the inside and usually partially corroded in place, so leave the bottom rubber plug in there and fill the pin with wd40 to let it soak through. then insert the pin removal tool, heat the hinge with the blowtorch and spray more wd40 on it whilst its hot. then give it a few good whacks with a hammer and they will come out no problems.
the first pin will take you ages and then you'll get the hang of it and the others are piss
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
What 5spdvl said. They are hollow split tubes.
You need a door pin remover tool; picture on this page:

It is a sh1t job. My tool is absolutely r00ted after removing my four doors.
Do a search, there are a few tips on how to do it.
The basics are:
Remove top plug only on both hinges, fill with oil and leave to soak for as long as possible.
You can only remove the pins one way each; the top pins go down, the bottom ones up.
The top ones are the easiest to remove cos you can smash the hell out of them(you need to).
The bottom ones need to be hit up, and because of the ground clearance, you can't really hit them with any gusto.
They are very, very stubborn.
Be prepared to swear lots, skin your knuckles, and remove bits of paint you didn't intend to!
Good luck!
Wrap the handle of the tool up with a rag while you hold it as it vibrates the hell out of your hand. And get someone to belt it with a big headed hammer...
Its the worst job, I had to heat up the drivers door hinges. The rest came out after a few good hits.
But definately leave them soak in wd-40 for a few hours before...
You can also cut a piece of 150x50 (or similar)to size(10 or 20mm lower than the bottom of the top hinge) to rest one end of the tool on, so that you can smack the hell out of tool without hurting your hand. (this only works for top hinge) You'd be surprised how brutal you need to be to remove these pins.
You can also try using a large slide hammer (insert the correct size pin part of the remover tool into the end) to pull out the lower pins. Its awkward, but the sliding action can help loosen the pins. Once they start to move its easy!
When I tried to remove a set of doors of the last car I scrapped, I ended up using a grinder. *** impossible to get them out without the correct tools.
i prefer the 9 inch grinder
if its a car thats gona be wrecked, as above, or cold chisel the welds maybe?
let DW40 soak in em overnight if u can....... ALSO theres this FREEZE spray at supercheap, its made by dw40 i think and itfreezes so it shrinks the metal and lubricates at the same time... should work i reken
lol since i am wrecking the car i might just say f*** it and grind them off... only selling the doors anyway. i don't intend to spend $X on a set of tools and then end up with a broken tool and 2 doors i cannot sell filling up my alrerady chockers shed.
thanks heaps for the tips guys, when i have to do a hinge repair on my car i will know!
Hinges still need to come off if your selling the doors mate...
Just do it, its not that hard if you do it right... WD40 and pin remover tool is really all you need.
if you cut them off u can tap the pins out with a pin punch but a pin puller is a great investment well worth it sell a couple of doors and it paid for...just lash out

Nah, this freezing stuff does exist. Its made by Loctite, and supposedly shrinks bolts in their holes. Kyle and I used it to get a really tight tie rod end out; after a day of bashing it, five minutes of this stuff and it practically fell out.
Guess it isn't bad then. However I don't know how well iot would go with the hinges.
yeah the freeze spray shrinks the hinge and tightens the pin, thats why i ended up using wd40 and a blowtorch, you can heat the hinge from outside whilst the pin stays rather cool.
i gave up on those tools and just made one myself. its just a piece of 8mm steel plate cut into a C shape with a hole in the bottom and 2 nuts welded to the top with another hole with a bolt through them. all you need to do is put it over the hindge and tighten the bolt, with a big enough bar or your socket wrench you could punch a hole through just about anything with it. broke my mates one of those tools on my first hindge and this thing dosnt have a scratch on it after doing all eight. and it was free!!! best thing bout it theres no hammer so you have almost no chance of scratching the paint, (almost)
