Im also getting stuck into this in the next few months and about to start collecting parts but mines for a track/circuit car. Im assuming you got the starter kit and engine mounts from CRS? , how much are they worth as ive emailed them but no reply . Also what extractors are you using?

I'm guessing you will have get a hammer into the gearbox tunnel to fit the new gearbox?

No guessing, it's already a known fact the tunnel will need "massaging" Sounds like a good car coming along some time. GENIII would be nice in the VL, pity I'll never have the $$$, oh well, just enjoy the carby 304 I got.

Have a think and let me know. Nothing wrong with keeping it original. The old girls are still good.

Nothing wrong with a carb 304 they got good potential for what they are , they just seem like nothing compared to whats out there these days. Any way good luck with the conversion keep us up to date

thanks for the replies fella's yeah im gonna have to either bash it out or cut it....nah bash it out lol yeah the kits from crs but i bought it from ebay saw the two mounts and the starter kit the whole lot for $550 gettin it all probs monday at the latest and im think that they go for a little over $1000 new from crs i got priced just didn't write it down lol give em a call they tell you all you need , as for the headers im going to get some custom ones made up so they fit ive read forums and seen pictures of crs headers but heard they are meant to sh#$ (im not trying to say they are) but yeah just the feedback ive heard doesn't sound good...mate let me know how you go with the conversion would love to hear seing as no one wants to do this conversion because of the price but the way i see it (im a frigen manager at macas with a wife and a kid on the way lol) i just spend little time on it here and there and spend any spare money i get on it sell old car parts n-stuff but yeah im loosing where i was at but i was gonna put a 304 INLCTD 5L in from a vn but i thought bout it yeah there cheeper and all but kno doubt i would wanna pull it out and rebuild it and put a blower on it thats why i went F#%k it im gonna put a gen 3 in A> you have the power even for a stock motor B> would still be reliable power and a nice car that you can cruise in and for the bloke thats using his for the track ^^^ spot on mate because the stuff you can get for these motors and you see heavier than vl's like vt,vx,vy they have pretty dam good numbers down the strip i dont care if any1 bags these motors out there awsome i should stop typing now lol

24-04-08, 19:03 GMT+10#18 Nice idea and best of luck to you mate. A stock LS1 with an exhaust and mafless tune will be lighter on fuel and most importantly make more power then a very worked 253, 308, or 5L.
250rwkw will be more than a handful in a light VL.

24-04-08, 19:12 GMT+10#19 yeah that sounds mad thats exactly what i wanna do i drove a vx ss ex cop car 6 speed and frigen every gear your stuck to your seat so much better felling compared to when my vl was turbo'd and the ls1 flew in the vx thats why i was like imagine in a vl it would be pretty mad

25-04-08, 10:57 GMT+10#20 Are you able to post pics of the starter relocation kit? , i was under an LS1 yesterday and would imagine a new bell housing is required to move the starter motor .
