Here is an updated of what is going on at Calder Park re the drag strip. The current plan is that they will run drag racing during May & June, then they will close the track for 2 months that is July and August, during this time they will: 1. Move the start and finish down the track by some 15m 2. Install all new cabling systems for timing etc 3. Move the left hand concrete wall over to the edge of the strip eliminating the current grassed area 4. If time allows they will build a new Drag Race Control centre on the hill in line with the strip centre line. If they run out of time they will do it later in the year. I will post up more updated as they come to hand.. Cheers Wayne

Moving the wall in is a huge upgrade in safety. Why are they moving the start line down 15m? Itll make it easier to get to from the line up area.. I know I had trouble swinging around. I heard they were getting massive timing screens halfway down the track too?

As far as i understand it they are moving the startline but not the burnout area This is to stop people doing burnouts past the startline, at WSID im pretty sure only group 1 cars are allowed to do burnouts past the startline

After you finish your run down the strip, you return back to the line of cars, hence "return road"...

About time they fixed it... you used to have to swerve at walking pace to miss pot holes or risk smashing your wheels / exhaust! About time something happened.

that return road has been fixed for 6 months. Are they going to be getting the track back upto andra standard so we might actually see some top fuelers and door slammers back again?

The government gave Bob money to fix it up... Not much has happened since. To give you an idea of how stubborn he is - the reason nascar finished was because he raised the entry fee to $5000 per race and when the two top drivers said they wouldnt pay it... the rest of the field agreed... and bob wouldnt give in so that was the end!

Well seeing as though a few VL's got out to calder last friday, just wanted to know the condition of the track? Have the 'improvements' improved the track? As opposed to how it used to be?
