hey been on here a while now but havent really used this site at all as i havn't been able to take my vl off the road for a complete rebuild and stuff but now we have a new VR for my missis, work can begin.
At the moment vl has: 3 inch exhaust, custom front bumper (like a walkinshaw but slightly different); walkinshaw skirts, door thingys, rear bumper and a rediculously huge wing (not a walkingshaw one though); manual box: superlow kingsprings: nolathane kit and tsw mags dont know the name of them though
Anyway this is what im planing;
complete respray Candy Apple Red
rb26\30
twin turbo
AWD off a GTR not including the IRS
NOS
2x xm2200 1200watt amps
12inch subs
Red Black interior
repairing front bumper (hit a few too many possums)
lossing the back spoiler
basically everything that can be unbolted is being upgraded
and the chassis is being strengthened (for the AWD)
ummmmmmmmmm yer think thats bout it as soon as i get a digital camera will post pics of the build
not sure if this all made sence but its 2 early in the morning, cant think straight.

geez EVLHSV you have a lot of random info stored up there aye lol
yer i bout it bout 2 year ago off trademe from hamilton. when i bought it was in really bad condition the guy hadnt even cleaned it, it was still full of rubbish and had about an inch of dust on it. i only bout it do do up but then one of my vn gts got writen off and this had to be my daily driver and up until now i havnt been able to do anything to it beside paint it one weekend, i learnt something the weekend i painted it bourbon and paint dont mix.
the budget? you prob wont beleive this but when i started talking to the misses bout ways to save money with the build (like rb25de head instead of rb26) she said "like hell your gona do that, as soon as you've finished you will want to change it again, if you are going to do this you are only gona do it once" i told her it could cost 50 60 k easily and she didnt care, best thing i have ever heard lol but if your after a figure i have $300 - $400 a week to spend, this could take a while.

Nah, one of the good things about the Commodore is that they are rear wheel drive. Save your money for a decent 26/30 combo and leave it RWD... IRS would be worth doing though

08-04-08, 00:18 GMT+10#11 yer i knew some people wouldnt like the idea, but im a speed junky (not the drug) i would prefer to lay down a quick time down the quatermile or on the track anyday. burnouts are cool but i would make a habit of doing them tyres are expensive drifting is fun but the same again tyres are expensive. i recon it kills the buzz noing that wen you done its gone cost you at least 300 bucks before you can do it again, at least drag racing or on the track you can go there with nothing but a full tank of gas and race all day. beside wouldn't everyone want to see a street legal 20 year old commodore thrash the hell out of a GTR or other big horse 4wd rice mobiel? and look dam good while doing it?: i sure as hell would

few contradictions there... most would say RWD would be better for 1/4 mile, converting a 20 year old Commodore to AWD would be more expensive than burnout/drift tyres... what i mean is, if expense is a concern, why would you take the most expensive approach and drag racing is just as/if not more expensive than drifting/burnouts/streeting...
not trying to flame you man, good luck with the build, sounds like fun but before you go down this road really consider other options if money is a concern...

hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm????????? well, u sure got me there lol. bout the price thing anyway. as for outright speed we will have to see the other big reason to doing it is because no-one else has, well.....except gibson motorsprot the that guys mate....but that dosnt count

yeah i was going to mention the Gibson Motorsport car but i was sure you would have seen it already... was for sale for $50,000 a few years back then resurfaced this year for $80,000... now its disappeared from aussiemusclecars.com.au so who knows whats going on with it, it wasnt listed in the sold pages so you could assume he kept it... its one hell of a car and if you replicate something like that you will have something very unique

yer thats the idea basically
im probably gona get insulted for this but i recon that car looked boring for what it was. i dont really understand why they did it from what ive heard they hardly ever drove it. they just built this really impresive machine then put it in a shed

08-04-08, 05:09 GMT+10#16 from what you have said in your posts................. I dont think you or your mates are up to the task of building it. if you are concerned about the price of tyres take up a new hobby like golf? :P
I reckon you should set your sights a little more realistic, but hey prove me wrong and do it. I wouldnt bother doing a 4wd VL, apart fom uniqueness it wont be any faster in most forms of motorsport. and will take a heap of time and money.
If you want standard running gear it wont cost too much, but if you want the thing to go hard, it costs enough just upgrading everything let alone the extra work of the 4wd conversion and associated hassles....

Pretty sure you can use the skyline rear end for VL IRS

The boys in oz don't have a problem doing 8 second 1/4 mile in RWD VLs... you think you can go quicker in an AWD VL?

The reality is if you can't stomach burning up $300 tyres then you cant afford to build the VL/GTR you talk about

Sometimes, but in most cases you will be towing home a bunch of broken parts that cost big $$$$ to replace before the next time you can go out
Ask anyone who has built a modified car... take your budget and double it

08-04-08, 06:52 GMT+10#19 double it?? i wish.......it gets bigger by the day

08-04-08, 10:53 GMT+10#20 wot i meant by expensive is wot my missis said only doing it once she wont be happy bout forking out for new tyres every other week
Geez i knew people wouldnt like this idea but this is nuts haha.
and yer your right people are doing 8 sec 1/4 with rwd but thats with slicks and huge horsepower and a car didicated to drag racing many arent road legal and bugga all will go round a corner.
awd will obviously have a faster 60' time with street tyres then rwd with more grip.
before anyone else bitches about it wait until late 2009 and see you at champion dragway.......then we will see what is quicker haha.
oh yer and bout the skyline irs it will fit but it needs different mounts manufatured
