hey guys got this off the ECCA forum
$920,000 Monaro sets the price pace
A HOLDEN Monaro has become the most expensive Australian car after selling for $920,000 -- to a bloke wearing shorts and thongs.
The HRT 427 was one of two built in 2002 to showcase Holden and HSV's engineering prowess.
The other is in Holden's concept car collection and is not for sale.
It was bought by a Queensland building industry figure who wants only to be known as "Chooka".
Hearing on the grapevine that Sydney car dealer Classic Throttle Shop was selling the car, he arrived last week for a test drive in shorts and thongs, then purchased it.
The vehicle features carbon-fibre fittings, a 417kW 7.0L V8 and race brakes to haul it down from a top speed of 299km/h. It was built to rival Porsche's track-focused 911 GT2.
"I'm a Monaro fanatic," Chooka confided. "I've got 20 of them, from the first ones in 1968 through to the last one in 2006.
"All are in pristine, low-mileage original condition -- so I had to have the HRT 427 to add to my collection.
"These don't grow on trees. As far as I'm concerned it's priceless."
Classic Throttle Shop's Chris Bowden described it as a million-dollar car because of its top-shelf specification and rarity.
"He beat us down a bit, but everyone finished up happy with the price," Mr Bowden said.
The previous record was $750,000 for a Ford Falcon 1971 GTHO Phase III, sold last June.

If he has money (which it sounds like he has lots of) and 20 other Monaros it sounds like hes a collector, and most of those sort of guys don't drive their cars, let alone thrash them like bitches

lol true but your tellin me if you were him and were sitting in that 427 you wouldnt be tempted?
why would you trash a near million dollar car? you thrash something that can be replaced...you dont turn a near priceless one of a kind possession into a piece of crap.
say you're a soccer fan and you've got some kind of rare soccer ball signed by the worlds best players in mint condition. are you gonna go out into your backyard and kick it against the garage wall? no.
this "chooka" character probably does drive these collectables for a bit...stretches their legs a little...but you dont use them as a daily. you certainly dont thrash it. HRT 427 or not...its worth nothing if its run into the ground. anyone that would want to ruin a rare and valuable car should get back on the tricycle IMO...training wheels and all.
I could be wrong, but I recall seeing a Red Monaro with the plate's HRT427 (Victorian plate's) featured in an Issue of Street Machine a few year's back.
The owner had payed big buck's for it back then, as it was one of only two produced, but still used it as a circuit car regularly.
Is this the same car?

You're a ****ing tool.
400 VLs for $920,000 = $2300 per car. MOST VLs arent worth that.
$920,000 would buy all VLs in NSW... but you could buy 400? Ive never been to sydney but Id bet theres more than 400 of the things up there.
