Turbo Water lines; Can you use both ports under manifold?

Im just completing doing a highmount setup. Ive just got a quick question. There are two water ports below the manifold as everyone know, one of which is used for factory and the other is sourced from the heater hose. Just wondering if you can use the two ports on the block to feed and return the water through the turbo? or does it still need to run like a factory setup? Thanks in advance

If you are refering to under the exhaust manifold. There is one water line and one engine block drain. You can not use the block drain for water supply or return to the turbo. One water supply has to come from the heater hose/ thermostat side of the engine. If you dont have the factory turbo heater pipes you can take the 3/8 water line that comes out of the block above the thermostat. (this line normally runs up to the inlet manifold.) Depends if your running water through the inlet manifold. One thing to remember is the water flow through the turbo on the factory cooling system changes direction once the thermostat opens. Also if you are running a ball bearing turbo move water flow is prefered. The factory water line of the heater pipe is 5/16, an increase to 3/8 will pull more water through the core. (yes there are heaps of bb turbos running around with the factory 5/16 hose that work fine) Also Garrett recommend rotating the core of a bb turbo upto 25 degrees to allow for thermo syphaning once the engine is shut down. hope this helps

Thankyou very much for your answer FRASHD it is very much appreciated. Im upgrading from the standard setup to a highmount 35/40 etc and I bought one of those universial braided oil and water line kits from one of CT's sponsors. The water lines supplied are a universial fit so a few extra fittings are needed. I thought that might be the case with the water drain as holden would of used that port from factory. Thanks again for the reply, basically all i need to do is get a heater hose t-peice with a dash 6 speedflow fitting to attach to the water line, then a speedflow block fitting for the other one.

no worries just make sure you tap into the right heater hose.
