ey evryone.. we currently are running a gas research 2tb set up on our 454.. there is soo much heat under the engine bay that its unbelieveable.. and i was wondering what would happen if we were to run twin snorkels either side direct to the tb.. there isnt enough room to run to hoses straight down.. my quesitons are.. -would there be an advantyage running cai on gas? -with more cold air, would it leanen the gas out too much? -what sort of difference will it make? (i know with the petrol 5ltrs , ls1's etc.. u get better economy, more acceleration etc.. dw about the old air cleaner/filter.. its only in there because its a tool box.. keep belts **** etc.. it can come out in like 2 secs.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Gday mate, the way the air-cleaners are set up is wrong, a pod filter straight on the end of a gra will not draw air 100%, F**k knows why, it just the way it is, you just need a bit a 3'' tubing to the gra just to smoove out the air and it will make more power, if it was tuned like that l`ll need to get it retuned l used to demo this at gra over 12-13 years ago at the training nights that they used to have, they had a v6 3.8 on a sh!ty engine dyno, it used to loose around 40hp from memory as for your problem, get rid of that big round old air f**king cleaner and the battery so you will have the room to run the hoses down there, as for the heat, it`s a big block, they make heaps for heat, stick some vent in the bonnet and the heat wont build up

my quesitons are.. -would there be an advantyage running cai on gas? yes -with more cold air, would it leanen the gas out too much? cold dense air will effect mixtures, I would recommend a tune. -what sort of difference will it make? (i know with the petrol 5ltrs , ls1's etc.. u get better economy, more acceleration etc.. Generally on an LS1 we see upto 8 kws plus at the wheels with air intake mods, just depends if its an OTR or CAI. Power gains are generally are less with 4WD's.

yeah as imtuff had said - where the pods are located won't 'diffuse' the air as well as what it could - a nice piece of convo tubing to a pod OR even the dual snorkel setup would be a good start. gas like efi benefits from cold air - cold air is denser and in turn burns better = more power/torque. agree a re-tune post this modification would be a good idea

thanks allot for that boys.. were most likely gonna leave it as is.. maybe just increase the length of were the pods are.. i had no idea about that it was getting hot whilst towing, however we have a thermostat from the ford 460 bigblocks that apparantly stopped their overheating, plus we got our distributer re-graphed so the curve comes earlier for towing, and hopefully wont be getting hot.. plus were gonna make a deflector for the bottom of the engine to draw more air.. thanks for the help, much appreciated
