http://www.ipransw.com.au/ As most people know i am selling my vl and coming out of the drag racing scene and i am looking at going into circuit racing at the momment i found the above site in which i believe allows me to race a VL turbo which is modified for circuit racing to there specs... Now i want to know who has more information regarding this where can i get information in regards what restrictions are put on a car as i want to build a full on circuit vl car which i can race around circuits which would be more enjoyable than drag racing i want to know if there is anyone out there who could maybe help me to enter this competition in nsw. I am keen to start building from scratch and get the car out there and racing any information would be appreciated .....

A lot of people i know race IPRA, the big restriction will be the restrictor, no matter what you do, it won't make more than 200-210rwk max through it. So you have to fill up the power curve as much as possible below that. Then it gets tricky to get the power down out of corners with so much bottom end. Maybe contact CAMS for a rulebook?

i am in the process of that should be interesting to get the car moving with that little power but would be good to get the torque up there what restrictor do they use

Don't quote me, but i think it was 36mm. You want the thing as lite as humanly possible My mate has even gone to the trouble of getting a really old car with a alloy cage with log books now to get his next car lighter( i don't think you can have alloy cages anymore) The guys i know have lap records at mallala, phillip island and sandown aswell from memory for IPRA. Having a V8 is interesting, you can basically have a full house 700hp touring car motor i was told but are restricted by the small control tyre, limiting you exit corner speed and braking.

This one is already done for ya. I reckon it would be yours for about 15k http://www.fullboost.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=563

I've seen that VLT running at Symmons Plains a few years back. Was a bit of a rocket ship. There can't be a lot of restrictions put on the rotarys in Imporved Production as they always seem to be up the front of the field.

i let you know....... not interested in the motor as its too much as they put restricitons on it all would like to know what suspension setups are in it etc what price would be on it without motor i would take the computer if it is

The rotarys guys always seem to have the deepest pockets aswell, some of those rx7 series1/2 would be massive money cars, full house PP's, big dollar close ratio boxes, motecs with full datalogging. Most other cars in IPRA are a lot more basic. The sydney guys are by far the worst, they race for sheep stations over there, and are ultra competive cheers darren

why a VL! but yes, as much as i love VLs and circuit racing for sum reason i know i'd prefer something with AWD (if allowed) and that'd just bring us to the GTR... ;p mind you, if u get this up and running, post up! would like to see a vl turbo racing around a track, not sumthing u see everyday...or year Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

As for all of the suspension i know it's got some custom coilovers in the front but i can't remember whats in the rear. Not a cent was spared when i was built, i quickly added up some receipts and it was well over 70k Ps we did run a restrictor infront of the turbo and the poor thing only made about 200rwkw. They were thinking about putting a v8 in it! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

lol thought so that turbo is too big need to use something like a t28 to get it spooling straight away hehe if that works that is

contact HSVSUX on this forum, he's a VLT circuit racer over in NZ. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeh i know am just thinking in NZ they would have different rules but maybe i am wrong but would love to see what setups people are using on these type of engines

Dunno if you have seen this site. http://www.techmasters.com.au/forum/ I looked into doing this quite a few years back, I think these are the latest rules.

saw that after i did the post hehe its all good would love to see input of peoples thoughts into getting a vl with a restricted turbo to actuall haul ass around a track start spooling when you turn the ignition on hehe

Have a chat to some rally engine builders, they know nearly all there is to know about getting maximum torque out of an engine that has enforced restrictions. Also have a hunt around on the Japanese sports sedans (the nsx's etc) sites as they have been using restrictors for years and years, might give you a few ideas on what is required..me I've got nothing, I put it in the too hard basket real quick once I read into the rules.

If you have to run a restrictor infront of the turbo you should look into what Toyota did in the mid 90's before they got banned from rally. http://homepage.virgin.net/shalco.com/tte_ban.htm

Your forgetting the weight and the restrictor. The restrictor limits power to 200-210rwkw on any car regardless of turbo/engine size/camshafts/headflow. Thats not enough to get near the older cars. You can only change the curve underneath that. You can run no wastegate, might go up to 25+psi , but by 5000rpm the restrictor would have pulled it back to nothing..amazing how they work. You can run no gate, makes them toey as on throttle transitions though and out of corners. turbo wise one of those GCG highflows that they fit to Rb25's still using the Rb25 exhaust housing would probally be the go, or maybe a 3071 . They typically fit Gt25/28 based 400hp turbo to most 1.8/2.0 4 cylinders. Sometime its better to go a bit bigger with the turbo though to smooth out throttle transtitions and will be faster and less toey out of a corner, with a smoother powerband, You will just have to experiment I would probally use a Rb25 head ( to smooth out powerband)on a na Rb30 stock bottom end( just a VLT or RB25T oil pump), don't waste your money on big dollar motors, most people just use wrecker motors, they last a season easily and get you to sort out any other probs( oil surge/ fuels surge), that kill good motors regardless if they have rods/forgies etc, they still **** themselve cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
