Hey guys im looking at getting some new shockers for the old girl, Im almost certain the fronts will be what it left factory with, the rears were when I changed them about a year ago. I want a set that are valved to 550 in the front and 350 in the rear, I have been told this is the best for the track racing. The dude who told me had his sitting very good through the corners. I really just need some advice on what brands, and cost if someone has done similar recently. Please only respond if you know what your talking about, not directed at any one in particular [GRK-WPN] Thanks

Better at going Koni yellows mate. They are adjustable so you can just make thm harder when you need it, and soften them up for road use. You will get over having high shock rates really quick. But having decent shocks isnt the only thing that will make the car corner better. Big swaybars, decent bushes etc will make more of a difference...

How much money do you want to spend? ^^^ as said above Koni coilovers are the way to go because you can adjust ride height and stiffness. I don't adjust mine now, but it was really good for fine tuning

I personally chucked in a set of koni red's and they are pretty damn sweet. I dunno how you could really go past anything from KONI. if I had the $$$ I would of probably got the yellows or even a custom set. Basically make sure that you match shockers with springs for what you want.

What springs are you guys running up front on coilovers? Mine are King Pro-Sport Competition 650lb

My coil overs i have no idea what springs. There red and thats all I know. There is no load rating stamped on them. But they work fine, thats all that really matters.

Koni and Bilstein are the only ones which can be revalved. Bilstein inverted mono tube ones are proper race type ones, Konis aren't BUT they can be adjusted and Bilsteins cant. I would personally go Bilsteins, they are alot better quality. If you ask the shop to order them revalved to those spring specs you should be ok.

Bilsteins are better, but for a street setup it is much nicer to have adjustable dampers. Race cars can be off the road while shocks get revalved, but it would be a pain in the ass with a street car

Do I have to get springs aswell to make full use of the shocks? Or can I use my low king springs, I really have no idea about suspension. I have a mate with an R31 track car and he has adjustable Konis in it, personally dont think he can adjust them enough to set it up better.

If you are going to spend the money get coilovers in the front, if you do that you will need new springs

Also where is the best sort of place to buy these from, do you know if you can order them off the net? Thanks again for your help guys

Both do coilovers. Sounds like your mate with the R31 didn't get custom Koni's?

Not that I know of, not sure of the adjustment range. oversteers out of corners bad, but understeers into corners, really hurts the front tires.

how much would coilover set you back?

Could be anything in the setup, not just shock adjustment Quote: Originally Posted by SIK_3LT how much would coilover set you back? I think you can get front coilovers with springs for around $800?? what brand would $800 get you?

Not sure mate ask vhr32, I think he made some up a while ago??? Ring the Bilstein and Koni distributors and ask them who makes good coilovers for VLs and go from there

The Koni and Bilstein distributors can make your struts onto 'coil over' type but because its all custom work, their labour is pretty expensive. I've had some from Quadrant (Bilstein) and I dont like their adj threaded bits because the springs are pretty small dia and rub and squeak on the strut leg lol Sydney Shocks (Bilstein) used to advertise them for $1900pr I think. I can make coil overs, I have made a few Commodore coil overs, just depends if you want new inserts or use your own and what brand stuff you want etc. A coil over strut, using your inserts would be around $650+++

I just finished making Jason a pair of Bilstein coil overs for his VL. Here is the end result: Hope you're happy with them Jase! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thats very impressive, vhr32. Made using the original strut body? Whats the legalities on doing that? Or does the nice blue Bilstein sticker get rid of that? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
