I got a motor given to me for free... when I took the manifold off it looked exactly like that. I reckon it had done 100,000 ks since the last oil change. I binned it obviously.

Wait till you do a diesel lol. I rebuilt one at work round 3 weeks ago. No oil change caused bearings to fail. Took me longer i reckon to clean parts than it did to reassemble.

18-03-08, 09:46 GMT+10#11 When I started my apprentiship we had a EA that wouldnt turn over. Thought we'd start with draining the oil. Pulled the plug, none came out. Thought ahh ok easy, ran out of oil. Got engine out, pulled sump off and the sump was still full ..... never had oil change and the oil turned to greese. Funny as hell ... looked the same as that. How sad not spending $40 to change oil + filter.

18-03-08, 09:53 GMT+10#12 Had a similar issue with my wagon. It was prob worse than that. We spent 5 hrs and fixed it and it cost us 12 bucks for a sump gasket. Thing runs quiet as a mouse and doesnt use/burn any oil!

18-03-08, 10:12 GMT+10#16 Yes, we pulled the sump off, tanked the pick up as it was partially blocked. Then soaked the top end with degreaser and let it run down through the oil drains onto a big tray. Once cleaned and dried out we oiled everything up, put the sump back on. I soaked all the rocker gear up and cleaned all the inners of the rocker shafts and rockers as they were partially blocked.
Thing fired up first kick and doesnt miss a beat! We saved the engine for 12 bucks!
