I am wanting to hook up alot of gauges in my car. They obviously need power to work. Is their a plug you can buy that on one side power comes in, then off the other side you can have like 5 wires feeding off the wire on the other side. I went to jaycar and they dont have anything like it. Anyone got pics or links?

Steer well clear of the scotchlock(?) connectors. They are an insulation displacement connection and have no place in a car. As Hingo said, solder and heatshrink is the go.

just make sure the single feed wire can handle the load of the 5 wires coming off it. it will be fine.

Just tap straight into pink (pretty sure its pink) accesories wire from the ignition barrell Quote: Originally Posted by sohc2 Just doesnt seem like the right way to have 5 wires soldered onto 1? How does that make any difference to using a '5 way distribution'?

just grab a distribution block from repco (around $15). they're fused aswell and can be secured to the car

yeh be carefull with those, i bought one a while back and when it was mounted it shorted out. i would put some sort of gasket under it so it will never short out. well thats if you mount it to metal.....

Instead of having 5 wires coming off the one gauge I'd just loop in between each one just so you don't have messy, or crowded connections. Even better still, a terminal block would be a lot better. Neater again and more simple. Scotchlocks are mostly used for data/phone cabling. I wouldn't use them, and I doubt 1mm-1.5mm wire would even fit into the ends of them anyway. Tube or tunnel connections are the best for joining wires in a car. Make sure your using the right sizes and make sure your crimper is decent quality.
