I want to put a modest but complete system in my VS Wagon, but before I go buying stuff and having to hack my car to fit it in, I want to find out exactly what size speakers to get to replace the factory items (splits up front and 5 or 6"?? 2 ways in the back) Can anyone recommend something reasonable that will fit exactly or close to the factory positions, maybe Jaycar gear??? Also is there anything stopping me from using the factory speaker wire (apart from it being a bit crap)

man do it bodgey, do it twice if your after a nice sounding system, Replace ALL wiring with new stuff run the speakers off an amp, or 2 2ch amps put 6x9s in the back if you can and i think the fronts are 6's or 4's in the vs also, take out the stock speakers and take them with you, Strathfield has some decent gear, MTX,pioneer, kenwood, etc also does JBhI FI, but go on ebay, they are heaps cheaper!

Makes it far easier to remove the amp down the track and It'll be plenty for me. I just want something better than factory.... and the Fronts are 6" splits I bought a pair of 6" pioneers for the back, Clarion splits for the front and a Pioneer headunit Something like DEH 4050mp? (fark you get a fair bit for your money with headunits nowadays!!) after a bit of shopping around for $340 all up, basically half price . Just gotta get an amp and sub. The only thing I'm worried about is the splits fitting in the factory spot (tweeters in-dash). If anyone knows how to get to the tweeters in the dash and how far I have to go pulling it apart it would be a great help. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i got a vs too mate. best thing to do is get a good quality headunit. i got a pioneer deh7950ub...just under $500 off ebay, and it sounds pretty good with the calais' 8 speaker stereo system. shouldnt skimp on the headunit, as the speakers will only sound as good as the headunits quality. good headunit + average speakers > average headunit + good speakers. i think all speakers are 6" in the vs...so get some good splits up front. some decent speakers for the rear...6x9s if you're not getting a sub. run the front speakers off the amp since you're the driver and those are mostly what youll be hearing...and run the rear speakers off the headunit. as for a sub, run it off a decent monoblock and filter most of the bass (80-90%?) to the sub and let the speakers handle the higher frequencies. ofcourse for just a decent sounding setup, nothing wrong with running front and rear speakers off the headunit (providing its a good one) and one amp for a sub. and its also very important not to skimp on the wiring, for the sake of sound quality that is. im not sure on the technical aspect of using factory wiring for aftermarket stuff, but obviously you wont have enough of it to connect ALL the new gear...so i say dont be a tightarse and just get some decent wiring, atleast. as for the tweeters, i dont know. id like to to know about fitting them as well, seeing as all i got atm is a pioneer headunit...rest of the gear is all stock but ill be upgrading that soon and you cant go wrong with a good set of tweeters. so id like some info about that too. not the most expert advice mate, but i hope it helps somewhat. oh btw...dont pay too much attention to [GRK-WPN]...he didnt get "tool of the year" for nothing.

It's OK mate...I've learnt not to pay too much attention to about 90% of you guys....and nobody listens to the weapon. I've installed a few stereos and my job revolves around audio so I'm not looking for tips on basic theory... As stated, I'm also not looking for some competition quality system, I just need to know more about fitting the front speakers. I will be running them off the deck with a highpass filter. I went for 6's in the back because they are a straightforward fit and all the low end will be taken care of by a subwoofer So, Does anyone know how the front speakers are set up? I've never taken apart a VS dash

Sorry man didn't mean to sound harsh. Just trying to say I'm not a 16 year old without a clue. I hate paying to get this sort of stuff done, but it's not the sort of thing I like doing either. Just trying to make it easy...and cheap. Easier said than done Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I need to know specifically how the demister vent panel that covers the tweeters comes out on this. There are a few visible screws holding it in at the top, but is there more to it?
