This is gonna sound pretty vague but i'll try my best....
My little brother is getting his hands on a MILODON ALLOY 350. He says it's a sprintcar motor. I wouldn't have a clue.
Long story short, he's getting it for $500, he's already gotten it crack tested. My question is...
Are these engines good for street driving? He's got big plans for a HX ute project. I think, in his mind, he's already spend $100K on it...all because he got a block for $500.
One of the V8 nuts at work reckons when they blow a headgasket, the whole things f_ _ked due to it being too soft or something along those lines.
The little prick's never got more than $50 in the bank anyway so it probably won't eventuate into anything but if I could steer him in the right direction with a bit of Calaisturbo.com knowledge, it would be appreciated.
cheers
If its a sprint car motor it wont run on pump fuel, will not work well under 6k, and will run fairly hot most of the time.. my mates old man bought a set of sprint car heads, and they were terrible for a street car... i would hate to see the whole motor!
milodon is that the sump company in the us or a engine builder brand-
from what u have said-i dont now if it is street freindly-as most sprint cars are high comp methanol running engines in the region of 13.1 onwards- i dont know if bowser fuel will cut it-(maybe if u have todays super dooper heads and even that will need timing knocked back a bit)
what block is it-has it been checked and bore tested-i have heard them to be hard on bores and those engines need a lot of maintence-
watch speedweek-they are always checking and working on them even after 20 lap's- i would be having a guess by saying they are hard on valve springs-some turn to 8500 rpm + from what i have been told--
has your mate got the whole engine or just the block ???

u are right- but who real knows the real comp ratio-thats why i mention 13.1 onwards as that in my view was border line-
besides u never going to get a honest answer from the sprint car guy's-its such a cut throat sport like pro stock-

100% true, everything you say Nick.
I know a few blokes that run Mini sprint, one of them is one of australias best drivers and even those guys keep everything close to them

Thanks for the info guys. My brother swears it's a Miloden block, with their logo stamped on the side. It might be 20 years old for all I know, that's why there might not be any info on the net about them.
Seems i've talked him out of it for now with the info you guys have given me, so that was my main objective.
hmmm even a bare alloy block for 500 sounds sweet to me...if worse comes to worse sell the rest off and keep the block and start from there
