roughly about 50-70*C on a stock n/a without cold air intake........high i know!
was reading up a link on what they were doing to a vl to get the most perofrmance out of it
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mine shows high 20's when just cruising and after a few stabs of 16psi goes up to mid 30's

its NA, and thats even worse, a non coolled turbo should see those, not an NA.
how are you all checking ITs?

more importantly where is the sensor located?
before or after intercooler?

turbros is placed before the t/b after the intercooler.
theres a second thread with a few details in it

after the cooler my friend, just infront of the throttle body.

Mine is after the cooler. Ever since fitting the Plazmaman intercooler the temps sit around -10 to 20deg when cruising/boosting (not sitting in traffic). With the old cheap cooler they used to sit really high.
Hybrid copy for the loost in my experience.

21-02-08, 08:42 GMT+10#10 so -10 you rekn jack? lol
are the sensors able to be hooked up to a gauge of some sort?
or is there a gauge/sensor that can be used?
ive been keen to hook one up for a while but havent looked into it too much.

Try this guys.... Pretty easy to make and works a treat.
Something like this to for someone who wants to be adventurous.

lol.
-10 would be making ice cubes in the pipes. Im sure u meant 10.
so is there a rule of thumb to determine if a cooler is sufficiently efficient. ie. 10 to 15 deg above ambient etc?

I bet you're talking about your engines water temperature... not the air intake temp.

21-02-08, 12:51 GMT+10#15 Well the hand controller says -10 but maybe it's dodgey?
And yes it frosts up on the pipes if they get moist.
That's with a Plazmaman Race Series intercooler, RRP is around $950 i think.
Beautiful things, the car drives like it's a cold night even when it's not lol.

21-02-08, 14:17 GMT+10#16 sorry but i can't see an intercooler getting below ambient unless it's help with some means other then ambient air...

21-02-08, 14:21 GMT+10#17 That would probably mean the hand controller was giving me mis-information then
They plenum-cooler pipe has at times got that crusty wet mildew stuff on it though.. so it has to be mighty cold?

21-02-08, 15:03 GMT+10#18 With the speed of the wind then surely it can get colder than the air temperature? Stick your hand out the window for 5 minutes on a cold day and it almost goes numb with cold... but stand still and it doesnt feel cold. Maybe the same would work for an intercooler with the air speeding into it?

21-02-08, 17:55 GMT+10#19 my old car had a plazmaman cooler and the autronic ecu read about 20-35 on hot days, the temp sensor sat on the xf throttle body before the butterfly...had it installed after the butterfly on the plenum initially and the readings where different, sat around 30-50...
ive had charge temps of 5-10 degrees celcius on some cold days, never in the minus though...
theres many different factors to cause different temperatures such as the intercooler, poor flowing compressor housing, path of the piping...either way ur cooler is working efficently when the charge temp is around ambient temperature...

21-02-08, 19:43 GMT+10#20 no, an air to air intercooler cant cool the air down past ambient. So on a 30degree day your intake temps going to be at least 30. The only way to reduce
intake temps to below ambient is with Ice in a water to air cooler. You live in sydney dont you ATMObt1, and its summer, so on certain days your intake temos are going to be way over 20, id say your sensor is stuffed.
