hey guys basically my car is 98% done but i am having an issue with it at the workshop on high boost. the throttle (accelerator) keeps sticking which is pretty scary wen it happens at like 23 psi. my car is on gas research with a pretty massive setup. the guys at the workshop reckon its because theres to much build up of air pressure that even when u back off the throttle dosent close and even recommended i get a blow off valve right near the gas research throttle body to let the excess pressure out in order for the throttle to stick.
Even though a know a bit about VL's and turbo systems i dont know much about gas research. The problem is and which i also told the workshop is how do some VL's run 9's or 10's without blow off valve?
personally i dont like blow off valves and even seeing one in a vl engine bay looks wrong to me but does he have a point with what he said and is it beneficial for me to get a plumback one?
or as im thinking is this problem related to my wastegate not opening and shutting properly, either coz its to small, big or not performing like it should? coz technically isnt that what a wastegates job is letting out the excess boost pressure or am i wrong in the sense of how it works with gas? any other suggestions, or as to why the throttle is sticking?
sorry for the long post but i really need this question answered ASAP so i can get my car back as basically this is the last problem im having on it b4 its complete, and also dont wanna spend money on a blowoff valve if i dont need one.
also my car is manual if that makes a difference at all.

pretty sure that a blow off valve lets off excess boost while the turbo is spooled up and is spooling back down when u let go of the accelerator, when changing gears or slowing down and it decreases turbo lag for better power, the turbo is still spooled up, you change gears, it dosnt slow down and you go straight into the next gear without the turbo spooling down and you dont have to wait for the turbo to spool up again
duno ifu get what i mean but even me is confused with what i wrote
u can try a stronger spring on the accelerator cable also but then u will get turbo lag so yea get a blow off valve......

my throttle always use to stick and yes its very scarey iv seen a certain LPG car written off due to this happening...
So I put 2 extra springs on the throttle and its really heavy now but never gets stuck

^^^^exactly right
GRA gear isnt made for forced induction, so the butterfly isnt offset to shut under boost nor is the spring strong enough to close under high pressure.

Dont listen to this chop, wrong wrong wrong and wrong a bit more.
For how a BOV works see here
http://www.gfb.com.au/index.php?parentid=faqs&option=faqs&sub_option=faq s_bovs (http://www.gfb.com.au/index.php?parentid=faqs&option=faqs&sub_option=faqs_bovs)
A Bov in no way will help the throttle close. Its actuation occurs after the throttle blade is shut. The situation your refering to tends to happen on cars with quite large throttle bodies, the surface area of the blade, specifically the distance between the horizontal axis where the throttle blade rotates on and the top edge is increased. Thus the torque applied by the pressurised air is to much for the throttle return spring to overcome. It happens on LS1's with 90mm T/B's etc. It also tends to happen on the VE commodores with there electronic T/Bs. Its a ****ty feeling as your off the gas but the car is still accelerating for a few seconds before the T/B spring overcomes it.
Like these other boys said, look for a stronger return spring or use multiple smaller throttle bodies.

im another gasser too same prob on 13 pound, im already thinking im gonna get teh same prob at high boost but worse
solution is way stronger spring and make sure its fixed properly last thing u want is it popping off when u snap the throttle shut

good to see a few more VLT LPG boys coming out of the woodwork!
should have a BBQ cruise one day lol

ay sleepaBT1 - is ur car gonna get dynoed at rapid flow?
if.. ur throttle gets a little stuck when ur going to accelerate.. check the bolt on the tb because thats what they use to ajust ur idle.. they had to grind ours because it was getting stuck.. atleast your throttle wont be as hard as when secondaries come on..
when r u gonna go see what times it pulls? keen to see..

15-02-08, 16:52 GMT+10#10 thanks for all the replys guys, really appreciate it. He's gonna add a few more springs and try adjust the tb ratio to not make the pedal rock hard.
Hopefully prob will be fixed then. My car was built at rapidflow and they are gonna road tune it for the gas on the 2 boost settings to get the mixtures and ratios right, but ill get it dynoed somewhere else to see what power its makin wen its finished coz the dyno there isnt strong enuff for my car and might like come off the rollers.
Im also keen to see what time its gonna pull down the quarter.
If it was auto would go tens but ive stuck with the manual.
hoping for around 300rwks, and low 11's
Im also curious as to see whether if when i do run it, and get a good time would i be victoria's/australias fastest straight gas MANUAL vl turbo as to be honest i havent heard of any other big power manual ones on gas, only auto.
i'll be honest when i had this setup running on just 9 pounds was still pretty damn powerful! i can only imagine 15 and 25 psi.

The springs will work a treat, common problem, good luck on the next dyno run.

18-06-09, 17:56 GMT+10#15 Some one needs to come up with a two cable push pull system like what alot of motor bikes use. It wont fix it but at least you can shut the throttle in a emergency. By the time you start adding heavier springs and more boost your pedel wont be so user friedly. but still would be alot nicer to fix the problem.

21-07-09, 11:50 GMT+10#16 Hey mate,
I am currently running a second return spring on my car but I find it still holds open on the odd occasion. So I myself will be going to a BOV when I pull my finger out and find the time to actually do it...
For sure a heavier spring does the trick as other have said...
I am going to try a combo of the 2 though...I reckon it will help. it certainly can't hurt anyway...
