This is absolutely driving me up the wall. I have two VLs, a turbo and a non-turbo. The turbo was running fine until today, the non-turbo not quite so well. I swapped the whole distributor from the turbo, to the non-turbo. Still wouldn't start. Swapped them back, now neither of the cars start. Run self-diagnosis on both of the computers.
Firstly, the non-turbo computer says nothing is wrong except for speed sensor and air conditioning. No help to me there.
Second, the turbo computer was flashing code 34? As far as I know there is no code 34... I erased the memory and tried again, and then it too denied there was anything wrong with the car apart from the speed sensor.
Is it possible that I have a bad ECU that has fried the CAS or some other part of the previously working dizzy? I'm so lost...
Check if you have fuel and spark. For fuel when cranking it over, pinch the fuel lines and for spark take out lead 1 and put a plug in it and when cranking it see if theres spark. If not maybe dizzy or coil is stuffed. Good luck
Ah yes 34 is indeed the knock sensor! I was reading the non-turbo part of the manual...
I'm beginning to think crank angle sensor, because fuel pressure is fine and it gets spark but it looks to my eye like the spark is not consistent.
if you dont have the knock sensor in it will bring up an error on stock ecu's as far as im aware. Did you put the Dizzy in properly? cos if its out then it wont start...
Yeah the knock sensor code must have been there for a while, it didn't come back...
Checked and re-checked the dizzy on the non-turbo, now it's back to it's old habit of taking a while to start, idling fine, free revving fine, and breaking down under load when it's hot. Strongly suspecting CAS now on that one.
