Hey Guys,
Ive just got a VL SL Wagon with a black 308...
Also, i was going to convert it and just go dual fuel but when i think about it i would rather have it running on straight gas. Whos running straight gas on an 8 and what were the conversion costs involved? Is it possible to have them remove the petrol tank and install a LPG tank there? cause i wanna keep the use of the wagon.
Also has anyone had any experiences in with installers in the SE Burbs of Melbourne? Im in endeavour hills
My VL V8 is dual fuel and was like that when I bought it so I cant exactly help you with conversion costs. I have heard good reports about AUZGAS on Mountain Hwy in Bayswater. They do gas conversions and specialize in performance lpg set ups. I went and spoke to them about removing all of my petrol system (tank and all) so I can run a dedicated LPG set up and the guy I spoke to was quite friendly and gave me a heap of info.
I own a shop in Wantirna. I do mostly custom and injection installs.
I do V8 VL wagons for $3400 using GENUINE Impco gear, not the copy.
Thats for a duel fuel set up and a Donut tank in the spare wheel area and a spare wheel carrier. Run of the mill crap really.
Straight gas is a much better option as far as performance and underbonnet neatness is concerned.
My standard straight gas conversion would be; Impco 425 on holley base plate bolted directly to manifold (would recommend a new single plane alloy manifold at the same time to maximise performance and ease of fitting as it will accept the gas mixer easier), a new 14" air cleaner assembly, Impco model 'E' convertor. Donut tank in the spare wheel spot, or tank behind the seat OR a manifold type tank mounted under the car for a bit extra. Run gas gauge on your petrol gauge, hidden wiring and the gas filler in the place of the petrol filler. Remove the petrol tank lines and obviously carby and all the pollution gear, make under bonnet nice and neat. And as a special for calaisturbo forum members I will regraph you dizzy to suit LPG for FREE! Once again to maximise performance on LPG and take advantage of the higher octane rating of LPG.
There isnt many V8's that I have straight gas that have not IMPROVED performance once this sort of conversion is carried out. Drivability is dramatically improved over the old Quadrajets driving style.
This aint cheap though, I think the last one I did came to $3800 or something, but I did quite a bit of extra stuff too for that price.
But I spend heaps of time making all brackets ect so it all ends up looking super neat. How super neat and hidden you go is all up to you, I can make underbonnet show quality with enough time and money.
If you would like an exact price ring me on Monday, also you can tell me how you want sort of tank you would prefer..

straight gas is the way to go, any mechanic will tell you running your car on daul fuel can caus major head aches and tuning problems... straight gas higher octane and alot cleaner then running petrol
