Gas Research Problem on VN V8

Hey guys I have a bit of a problem with my straight gas research setup on the VN 5 litre, I was hoping someone might help me with. The setup is only 2 months old and has worked fine until I left the car sitting while doing some work on a seemingly unrelated part, the transmission. When I went to fire it up it is near impossible to start and when it eventually starts it simply wont idle. I've checked everything I can think of but am unfarmiliar with lpg setups. Turning up the idle to around 1500rpm or more is the only way it will drive. It still seems to rev okay but simply seems to run out of Gas while trying to idle. The conversion was done at Rapidflow so I'll probably take it back, probably have to tow it there though cos i'm over an hours drive away and it's really hard to drive in traffic. Anyone have any ideas?

The only thing i can think off could be one off the vaccuum hoses has come off on the throttle giving a vac leak? also make sure your converter isnt freezing over at idle perhaps?

Yeah I've checked every single hose I can see. It does behave as if there's a huge vacuum leak but there just doesn't seem to be any. How do I check if the converter is frozen over? It seems pretty hot to touch would I assume it would feel cold or something? hey make sure that the hoses between the GRA carb are all secure - the ones that seem to loop back and forth around the carb - these control the idle circuit mate. my mates F100 460BB had this exact problem failing that make sure that the IAC and TPS are connected AOK... otherwise drop in and see the guys in hoppers they're a good mob.

when u got ur car back did they leave it running rich for the first 1500 kays? our car got done at rapid flow aswell except ttb's.. they leave it running rich because its got sumthing to do with the converters.. the diaphrams inside stretch or sumthing when its running too lean and this causes it to start bad and to possibly idle bad.. then u gotta take it back, they lean it and dyno tune it.. gl with it

Yeah I sent the car back for the 1500km tune and they did lean it out cos they left it rich at first. Done probably 4000kms in total now without problems. One thing though, at Rapidflow when I went to pick the car up they were driving down the road in my car with a wide band in the exhaust does this mean that they just tuned it on the road not on the dyno? Psyolent - yeah i checked all those hoses they seem to be okay, I'll check the IAC and that today ***Update*** I think I found the problem. For some reason a fair bit of coolant is now leaking out of the gasket on the converter. I suppose it has something to do with the poor idle and such. How could this happen? I'm guessing it's faulty somehow and should still be under warranty. Would I have to take it back to Rapidflow or could I take it somewhere closer and still replace/repair it under GRA warranty?

which side of the gasket sloVN....from the backside (metal bit) or the topside (the black plastic bit)? it sounds like the gas is not vapourizing right ; if the coolant is leaking around it you may have an air pocket somewhere in your cooling system which has pushed the gasket (probably on the backside) out... take it back to rapidflow mate. B2's (if thats what yours is) are worth about $280 these days (i replaced one on a 460BB not long ago and let us know how you get on bro Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah the converter is a B2, its all metal but it's on the backside part of it that it's leaking. Yeah i'm taking it there tomorrow

says like your convertor is stuffed, don`t rebuild it, buy a new one or make sure they get you a new one not a rebuilt one, l had same problem, but my convtertor was a $18 special from pick a part

hey mate how'd you get on?

Yeah it's still at the shop, they suspect a faulty converter. Hopefully I get it back today...

Yeah I still haven't sorted out the problem not sure what is going on. They said they put on a new converter but I can see that they put massive idle jets in as well and it's better but still hard to start/idles bad.

when you say idles bad, whats bad mate? real lumpy? or just keeps stalling? MAP sensor and TPS connected up AOK to the GRA throttle body? is the IAC motor connected up also and AOK???

Once it gets going it's alright starting is a bitch though. Getting about 240kms to 65 litres now whereas i got around 330kms before this problem started. Everything should be good rapidflow went over everything checked for vacuum leaks, even rewired the gas control module, changed the plugs and they said they changed the converter too.

So it went to a gas joint they said they fixed it but its still doing the same thing? Is that what your saying? I wouldnt be too happy about that if I was you. Is it dual fuel?? Does it run O.K. on petrol?

hah no comment i'll send u a pm. it's straight gas

Didn't ask for specifics, just suprised that it was given back to you with the assurance it was O.K. but seems no different. Have you rund em back again I'm sure they'd be happy to have another go at it!!!

Runs too lean W.O.T, Too rich at cruise and far too lean at idle. Figure that one out!!! I looked but I need to look more.
