Yesterday morning, I got in my calais and started it up - everything was sweet. I went to pull my iPod charger out of the power socket and the green ring that holds it in place broke and the whole socket came out and when I tried to put it back in the hole it shorted out on the metal behind the dash and the engine died.... all dash lights are off head lights stuck on - although they are switched off. Turn the key.. nothing - not even dash lights. So I have checked all fuses and have even tried a different ecu but no luck. This has pulled the last straw, once its running, Its going to sell for whatever I can get and I'm goin back to Ford!

LOL - oops - pushing a live terminal back in near grounded metal is a great reason to drive a ford Its possible the 15A fuse for the cig lighter has been replaced with something larger and/or the short has taken out a fusible link for the ignition as well... Just go to the fuseblock and inspect all the fuses first, then if they are all ok check the main fusible links, edit: MadVK308 - u beat me by ..that.. much . . Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Damn good point, I forgot about that, there are more cheap fuses coming into the country from China than ever and some are just so bad, they might look ok but sometimes the plastic gets cloudy and the wire can crack so a full test is a good idea. And check the main fusible links as well...

i reckon since the motor died and the headlights are playing up there may be a relay issue. if your headlights are switched off but they are on then something is giving charge to the headlight relay. same deal with the motor, i'd say fuel pump or coil relay mayb? have u checked spark etc in the bay? Either that or you have shorted the cig lighter onto your stereo wiring and fried the ignition switch, or perhaps the constant positive cable on the stereo has backfed and fried something. it could be caused by a lot of things man... **** like this is why my car is full of circuit breakers instead of fuses... much more reiable and u never burn wires IMO you need to get a power probe on it, go to an auto sparky and tell them what u got in that first post i'm betting they'll have a solution for ya in about 5 minutes.
