i have a 600X320X500 tank made for turtles, it has platforms and so on some say as big as the tank some say they will keep growing and will need to upgrade tanks. Its best to get a filter twice the size of the tank was they are messy. or get a smaller one and get a second smaller one after it out grows the filter. I just got a new one, i was looking at $80 ones but then the petshop chick told me to get the $20 one and get a second one in a fue years once it needs it.

Don't you need a license to keep the Short neck turtles? so that's more than what the turtle's worth. I keep the long neck turtles common variety no license required, yes they are messy, you have to clean the filter 3 times a week or they will smell. And allso mention you need a UV fluro or heat pad as well as the filter pump so factor in a rise in your electricity bill as power bills go up this year in 08. But they are a great pet and everyone seems to like the turtles, compared to snakes & lizards.

looking at the licences at this page http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/CA256F3100...fe+Licence.pdf (http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/CA256F310024B628/0/B26F8AF7E3D97226CA257193007930EF/$File/Application+for+a+Private+Wildlife+Licence.pdf) ive noticed that they have called it the wrong name it should be EMYDURA MACQUARII not EMYDURA MACQUARIA and it also says you dont need a licence to keep this type of turtle in vic.

In QLD you do need a license to buy one. Rules are made to be broken.. I cant understand how having a lecense is going to change anything, another way to get money out of you. Also if the light + powerbill is too much for you. you can get UVB drops you put on his head once a week, they will give him enough UVB light, also put him in a smaller tank and take him outside for 20-30 min every 2-3 days.
