i need help urgently..... im going away tonight for a week in my car, BUT ITS NOT RUNNING!
i had to change 2 injectors the other day, but i got a set of 6 out of a r31 skyline, now...
yesterday, it was running, but had a little miss every once in a while, so i thoguht i would go and change the air flow meter, and it was worse, i played iwth the timing, and it either had absolutly no power, or it was pinging its head off.
today, i put the old afm back on, and its missing badly, you can only barley touch the accelerator, if you floor it, or give it too much gas, it misses badly
what could it be? fuel reg? fuel pumps?
i had a similar problem turned out to be a rooted bearing in the dizzy. the problem made it's self clear straight away as when i pulled the dizzy out. the shaft was really tight to spin when it should spin perfectly by hand.
5 hours to fix a car that you're going to rely on for a whole week...somehow me thinks you're better off renting or taking another.
I'm no mechanic but has the CAS been replaced lately? Checked the distributor cap for cracks? Both fuel pumps working?
brand new cas, and dizzy cap, dizzy spins freely, fuel pumps seem to be working fine, i have just pulled the inlet maifold off, and replaced all the gaskets again
i dont have another car to take, and i dont have the cash at the moment to rent (its only going to rye and back twice) so, that about 250 kays
AFM is the primary fueling input for the computer,
Any AFM or CTS codes on ECU ?
So, as it goes bad when touch AFM side suggest wiring, connectors, are all
the ECU connectors fully clicked into position, and have you had them out
to see they are clean.
I get similar probs now and then and looms wiring/connectors are an issue.
I'd recommend using "contact cleaner" and teasing the wires on the connector,
ie. Firmly pulling them a bit and moving them around to re-establish ay crimp
connection that might have been interfered with by corrosion. Not too much you
dont want to break them off.
The AFM and CTS absolutely rely on a very good connection to ECU *any*
resistance or inconsistency in connection will cause the types of problems
you report, also the fuel pressure regulator can stick and the spring can corrode
and this causes all sorts of oddities.
edit:
Did you make the timing precisely 15 deg or after you set it did it seem to wander,
you might have a worn/broken woodruff key on the crank - others reported that.
ive always had to run 17 degreese...
tried a differetn afm, and the contacts are clean, which is the cts? the coolant temp sender thats on the return from the intake manifold?
ill do an error check, and see whats going on with it...
ill get back in a week or so, and yeah, im gonna borrow a mates car who is gong to qld for new years, costing me 200 bux but yea...
17 is close enough for a n/a, if turbo I wouldnt as this thing called "silent" ping
can do engine damage over time that you cant hear and its related to timing
to some degree... 15 is factory optimum re chamber shape etc etc
Contacts on AFM are only one part, the crimps in the loom connector can
be a big influence, CTS on front on manifold, yellow with 2 pin plug, some
older ones were red but either way 2 pin plug. If it reads higher even by a little
it will overfuel badly.
