hey guys just need a bit of help with installing a trimatic onto a 308
few things im not sure of is. do i fill the stall converter before the auto go's in or after and whats the best way of installing it and getting it postioned right
i will be doing this just with the car on some car ramps
yer u fill the converter.
best way is to put the converter on the box before installing, twist it around quite a few times till it locks, from memory its about 6 times.
make sure it actually locks though cos it can feel locked but sometimes it isnt.
i wouldnt fill the converter first, things might get messy, get a new oil seal that sits behind the converter while the box is out there only about 5 dollars. as mentioned keep turning the converter until it locks in place and if you can make up a small bracket that bolts to one of the bellhousing bolt holes, the other end of the bracket sits up against the converter holding it in, this reduces the chance of the converter falling out during installation. after the box is positioned ready to bolt up the bracket can be removed and converter pushed forward slightly so it can be bolted to the flywheel. Converter holds about 2 or so litres which you can add after its all bolted up, once the cars on the converter will get filled up in a matter of seconds.
when you fill the auto with fluid it will fill the converter, you dont need to worry bout filling it until everything is back together, make sure the converter is in right or you will break the oil pump in the transmission.
