just wondering if anyone knows whether my VLC 5.0 is legal for me to drive on my P's. I'm on the old P plater law but have no idea whats legal in regards to V8's..
lol NATH KORN did you even do even do the math......
a vl 5.0 has less power than a vn v6 and is the same weight, so yes its fine
they came out factory with like 96rwkw......
if your on the old laws your fine.
By the way, its not a 308! vl was a 304 carbie. hsv models were a 304 injected.

I think what nath was saying was capicty to weight not power to weight.
The fact that its a 5 litre is what puts it over the limit. Power to weight its fine but it needs to pass both power to weight and capacity to weight

i carried around the print out off the vicroads website.
all you need to do is calcualte the capacity to the weight on the side of the road and they let you off...because its LEGAL.
my old girls owns a 5.0 vl, and im on my p's, and i still drive it, and its modded. headers, zort, manifold... never had any trouble at all, if its stock they do pass, just, at as said be4 the 1450kg and 4.9L... but up to you, drive it, its legal, but keep some papers, in your glove box, to prove it does pass.
if the cops been an ass i say u were prob drifting from gutter to guter but it is legal to drive to be safe have a print out if u still scared get vic roads to date it and sign it then u no 4 sure and there is proof if u go pimpin it out with cut springs gauges 20s etc u r going to be picked on keep it placid as with ya driving skill and u will be ok
yeah thanks fellas, should be fine eh
shouldnt get too much attention in a candy gold vl?
304 ey? what a **** i am.

Even if you calculate it on 5 litres (not 4.9) it still passes if you use the weight of 1450kg. So either if you call it a 304 or 308 its fine.

Where do you get the weight of 1450?
everywhere I look i find that the weight is either 1384 or 1350. On both those weights it fails on capicty to weight.
however you would be unlucky to get busted for it and as a driver of a 5.0 carby vl myself I can vouch for these cars not being a high powered car. It just goes to show how bad the guidelines are that cars that are easily quicker are ok to drive and this one isn't

Over east have very harsh rules on P-Plate drivers compared to over here, we can drive wat we want!
