should be good just throw in the cam and get the comp tuned on a dyno

vlcalais8 - that made no sense bud, u said should be good? but then u see get teh comp tuned? in short that cam needs to have the ecu/memcal remapped to run it. id also be careful on using stock heads with that cam.

wat do i have to do with the heads??

If you have old stock heads they're probably not gonna like the cam throwing the valves around as aggressively as it will (well, the valve springs anyways). The heads will be restrictive but you can live with the stock porting if you wish. EFI heads don't flow to badly out of the box in comparison to non EFI heads. At the least I would have your valve springs changed for some nice dual valve springs. This can be done without removing the heads if you dont wish to remove them. Its one thing to say what you should do and what your financially able to do. You could pull the heads, clean them, port them (if you do maybe just stick to a bowl job) throw some rockers on, new valves, dual valve springs, some hardened pushrods would be nice......However, Did i mention that when you put these nice clean strong heads back on theyre gonna seal really well...("thats great no vacuum leaks"!) ...and probably **** out the already half flogged out bottom end that will be in the car already and then you will be doing that. My advice would be if you have to throw the cam in, obviously new lifters go with it, clean your pushrods out, clean your rockers up, have a mechanic fit some new valve springs for ya and have it tuned. You will need to have it tuned via the ecu or chances are its gonna lean out with a jump on cam size.

yea change the valve springs, stock ones will definitely break, stronger single valve springs will be fine, you have to machine the heads to fit dual valve springs on holden heads. Ideally you should put a little bit more compression into the engine with this cam.

You will need a tune with the 284. I had one, hunted like crazy at idle. I had a 180kw comp in it for the run in. I had to tweak it with kalmaker just to get it to idle nicely. The stock springs as mentioned above won't handle it too well. An Lt1 spring will do the job and they are a straight bolt on with no machining required. You could even install them on the car if you have the right tools. As also mentioned, the 284 needs more compression to get it working right.

Also as well bigger cams needing more comp etc etc to gain max results, extractors/zorst system needs to be up to scratch as well as diff ratio and stall speed (if auto). Remember its not half as good (or even pointless) if you do one mod instead of doing everything and having a proper set up where everything works together

Either Kalmaker or different plug in. Kalmaker will do the job fine and you can retain everything that your vehicle had. BCM will not be affected. closed loop works nice, idle control nice. Drives like a factory car once tuned. And looks like it has not been played with. Quote: Originally Posted by 87VLT wat do i have to do with the heads?? Unless you are raising the compression (highly recommend) leave the ports alone. But change valve springs. The cam you have chosen really likes more than 8.4-8.6:1 (what ever the 304 is) Are you pulling the heads of the car? or just asking what you could do with the heads?

mate i have a 308 286 in a lc torana it runs 12.1 soon to run mid to high 11s so i know what to do with this cam you need a 3300 to 3500 stall if auto take your heads off and get them shaved 30 thou and bolt lt1 valve springs on thats it do not get the heads ported you will be paying to loose hp bolt the heads back on shim the rockers or buy ajustable ones then get it dynoed and id say at a rough guess it will make 160 to 180 rwkw i hope this helps cheers caine
