Dude you need to learn engine 101. You are going to get flammed big time for this. I suggest you go to a performance shop and say "I have no idea" here is my money make my car go fast. 1. Do a search on here 2. Google it As for price how long is a piece of string. How much do you want to spend? Engine modifications are as deep as your pockets will allow.

A 355 is what you might call a 5.7L Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Have a look at the c.o.m.e website or something they make stroker cranks

a 355 is,in simple.... its the art of stroking the engine in its "very special spots"..until such time has passed and your mechanic can now buy a plasma...lol

the 5.0 in a VT signifies how many litres of displacement the engine has, ie 5 litres (though its not EXACTLY accurate) a 355 is AKA 5.7 litres of displacement, though the number sounds small, the extra 0.7 litres makes a huge difference. As for how it works and all that, as said u need to learn engine basics 101 Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

man, why doesnt anyone just answer the question. he doesnt know, so he's asking, simple as that. he's trying to learn. and wth is with post number 2. dump money on a workshop's bench and say 'gimme one of those'? i dont know about you, but imho we should try and aim for as few of those people as possible, its better to have a go yourself and get to know it for yourself, and also thats how people get taken for a ride, because its clear they have no idea what they are talking about. mate a 'stroker' engine is one in which the stroke of the crank has been made bigger. there are a number of ways to do this, but the most formidable in holden 5 litres anyway, is to take out the 304 crank, and replace it with a 350 cubic inch crank, then throw in some pistons with a .30thou overbore taking the capacity out to 355 cubic inches, which is actually a 5.8 litre

the engines CI varies on the distance of the piston/ how far it goes up and down/ the stroke.. to stroke motors some people put longer rods so it goes up and down lower, and put smaller pistons.. there are many advantages for stroking and de-stroking... for e.g some people put smaller rods and bigger pistons on the 454's so they revv harder and quicker.. it mostly likely goes down to 427 after doing this.. thats an advantage.. but youve lowered your Ci so thats a chance of loosing torque.. you can certainly stroke your vt.. being a s1 304..stroking to 5.8 is no issue.. many people do it and get good results wether their n/a or forced air inducted.. having the bigger cubes will give you more torque... but it then depends what cam setup you have because there you can enable more torque, or more horsepower.. for e.g i got mates with 383's and bb's, but their built for pulling weight, they all have custom ground cams for way more torque then horsepower.. a bit confusing, but hoped i've helped.. gll with it Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Why go to an engine shop and give all your money but not find out any info first? Flammed? Flammed for asking what an engine part is? Not everyone is a master engine builder first go pal. Try being more helpful in your responses or dont bother sending your fingers to the task of typing. Thanks PSI-EFI for making a PROPER explained post.

another great thing about stroking a motor is since you have to open the engine up to throw in the new crank, the motor gets a rebuild at the same time and you get new bits (bearings, hone etc etc) and also get to choose what you want to do to the heads of the motor and select cam size etc etc all at once, so once its all together (and done right) you get alot of added power and torque as well as a reliable motor where you dont have to worry about rear mains and rings giving up etc etc the more you poot your foot down

Thanks PSI-EFI for making a PROPER explained post. Well same place i learnt. Reading books and doing it. OK here for example as in this forum or any forum for that matter is not a great place to learn about how a motor works and what parts do what. Forum are full of bull**** and hersay with the odd gem of information thrown in for good measure. As a guess 90% of people on any forum would not have the ability to compentantly rebuild a motor while raising its performance bar. What some 16yr old who thinks he knows everything is going to tell him is anyones guess. With 2 minutes of searching on the internet turns up these wonders... 1. http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm 2.http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...ild/index.html (http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/67838_budget_vortec_head_cam_355_build/index.html) Now the second article is a CHEV motor but the principle is the same. How bloody hard was that.... I gave the guy some advice. DO A SEARCH A hell of alot better than what some 16yr old who thinks he knows how it works.
