Ok, did a search and didn't find anything too informative. I'm thinking of going manaul with the Calais and was wondering what box I would be best to chase, and a rough idea on what a full conversion would cost parts wise. Anyone selling a conversion, or parts thereof? Cheers.

id go a T5 manual. they arnt hydrolic box's so you dont need to run hydrolic lines, but yet they can still handle a fair whack of power. if you use a Ford T5 box, with a Holden T5 manual bellhousing, youll have one strong box on a holden 5ltr. although, you may need an adapter to fit the bellhousing. im ppretty sure being a vl 5ltr, your would be a trimatic pattern and not a turbo pattern? unless you running a Injected 304 which are all turbo pattern and the box will bolt strait up. if you had the money, which most really dont, you could also go a 6speed ZF box from a vn to vs.(they were in the Group A and the GTs ec..) or you could use a T56 6speed from a LS1 with an adapter to your bellhousing pattern. but doing it this way will mean you are going to a hydrolic box and have to run hydrolic lines. out of all for bang for buck on a budget, the easiest and cheapest is the Holden T5 box, my second option would be the Ford box which is stronger. if you do get a T5 manual though , despite what some people may say, the V8 box is much stronger than the V6 box. so dont buy a V6 one.

Thanks for that. Yeah it's a carby 8 with the trimatic auto behind it, so I'll need to adapt a box to it. Time to satrt browsing the for sales and ebay.

all u need is a adapter plate for the bellhousing from castlemaine rod shop, and probably the front half of the tailshaft modified to.
