Ok so today driving home, its pouring down rain. Car starts spluttering like crazy so i put the clutch in and it stalls. I roll and park it. I go to start it and nothing. It doesn't crank at all. So i try again and it cranks once and then nothing again. I try again and it is now cranking over. At this stage I notice that the fuel pump is making weird priming noises non stop and that when the ignition is on the tacho is going up and down like crazy and you could also hear zapping noises like wires touching each other. I then crank it over and white smoke is pouring out the exhaust. I go and look at the exhaust out and it appears that there is fuel on the exhaust tip. So the NRMA comes... does the usual. Checks for spark... Yep theres spark. Checks the ECU for water... No water. So we try and crank it again and it finally starts and he says it was flooded. So hes following me home in case it ****s up again. Get very close to my house and it ****s up again. So he called a tow truck for me. I get a call from the tow truck company saying that Im not at the spot where my car broke down at. I tell them what happened and they say that I was supposed to tell them that (the NRMA dude is the one who organizes the truck). So now the tow truck company says I have to call the NRMA and book another tow truck so i told them to get ****ed as by the time the tow truck comes the mechanics will be closed. So I will get it towed tomorrow. What do you guys think the problem could be??

There are heaps of things it could be, from water in the CAS or just a failed CAS or anything to do with the ignition to start with. You might have had a cooling system failure such as head gasket or crack in head that floods chamber with water, this gets mixed with unburned fuel so you see/smell it at exhaust - in that case its not the CAS. First and easiest thing to do is check coolant level and open cap of cam cover and see if any sign of tan/grey emulsion on rockers or on inside of cap. If coolant down then its a sure sign of loss of water and its not clear how long that could have been like that, if its a long time them that would account for the white smoke - though will get some of that from water, overheated head takes off the aluminium oxide layer and that is white... So in summary, check coolant, cam cover cap and if thats ok then peek at CAS. If fuel tank is low and your high pressure pump is failing - then it might have leaned out serioiusly and caused a gasket breach - prob from repeated use but below threshold of observation previously. If you make sure you have at least a half tank and manage to start it then limp it home (gently) and remove all plugs, check them for sign of getting burned or damaged by not enough fuel or from coolant...

Hi niche. I dont think it is related to the cas as it ****ed up only a few months ago and required to be towed. This is what was replaced *Dizzy rotor *Distributor Cap *Cas *Cas plug. I will check out the rest you recommended tomorrow or possibly tonight if it restarts and I can get it home. Well it looks like its ****ed. It started and i got it home. I open the radiator cap today and fluid leaks out of it non stop (just keeps rising and leaking out). I noticed it looked a very strange colour (pinky-red) and i could see like a oil film on top of it. I smelt it and guess what I smell..... Petrol.......... So im guessing something is seriously ****ed.

It might only be a corroded gallery and that is easy to fix once head is off, I have seen one fixed with plasti-steel and it was still going after 5 years, that plastisteel stuff is quite amazing if mixed properly and allowed to cure correctly. You do need to thoroughly clean the corrosion first and to help make it hold the epoxy it helps a lot to use a fine grinder bit like a dremel hand drill and make the sruface rough with little holes in odd directions so the epoxy cant fall out and is held in by structure as well as chemical bonding... You may just have a head gasket breach, I'd suggest taking the cam cover off and just see if all the head bolts are tight, I have heard of more than on occasion in last 10 years or so that a head bolt will work its way loose - this was even after the installer swore blind he tightened them all - did he draw up a sketch and tick off each bolt as he did it - nope Also if changing head, good idea to retorque bolts after 1000Kms or so, just to be on the safe side. Its also possible but very rare that a bolt has fractured and released tension enough so that any ping forced a breach that wouldnt otherwise have happened had the tension not been released etc...
