The R31 was originally by my wife as a stocky series 3 silhoutte with 210,000km on the clock, as she was sick of having crap dailys and good weekend cars, and it was never going to be modified Angela wanted a import coupe, but with the other cars we had it was to much money. We stumbled across this one for $2800 bought it on the spot , seeing a good series 3 silhoutte was $4500-5000 at the time, it was a bargain and the guy was desperate for money. Nothing was modified at first, except for import headlights, to look like the coupes. Several months down the track when angela was away, a guy came into a mates workshop with some rims, i thought they looked alright and boughtthem straight away. After fitting them it was to high, so some king springs and KYB shocks/struts where put in And that was going to be it.........thanks Brescianis for Pannic because this is how it all started , Pannic went 8's, there was pannic on her phone, Pannic playing onthe computer, i want the car to sound like Pannic At this time, we had a house and our wrx money pit was sold, so Angela bit the bullit, It had to stay stock looking, and be able to drive to work everyday in peak hour traffic and run 12's. A call to MV had the trans sorted for 350-400rwkw and 4.11's and a mini-spool where fitted to replace the worn LSD. A couple of weeks later the plans changed again, with a 3540 .82 being purchased. The motor parts where all purchased and under the guidance of Shaun from Boostworx ,Angela assembled the motor. The goal now was under 10.6 to beat the rajab record All the parts arrived .... I'll finish this later........ Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

huwefhuiwer Now it had taken a while, a few up vl in the my mates workshop started to surface. It was about this time we though bugger it, 3540's are becoming common, ta45 and t066's are oldschool, but surely a Gt42 would have a wide effiency band with Gt wheels so maybe that could a used still on pump fuel and if not water injection would get it up on its effiency island. I had always wanted to try one of kyles manifolds aswell after reading about his work and thought, with some tricky manifolding, a nice cam and intake it just could work and if it didn;t we could sell it off. Remembering at this time i can only think of one vl turbo in australia that a Gt42 on it and it wasn't super quick, the rest where racecars. Some with some help from PSI(adam) on here i selected one of the new generation tighe cams (220 at .50)., and replace the intake with na runners/jd plenum. Anyway, got it all running dynoed it while still pretty tight, made 270rwkw on 16psi. Did another couple of thousand km( at this stage it was still a daily driver) and brought it back and it made 316rwkw on 16psi, we then turned it up to 23psi and it made 370rwkw( probally 130-132mph traps) on bp ultimate. Anyway it was interesting to learn how to drive it, it just blew the tyres of the rims, fullboost at 4250rpm with low 7.5.1 comp , as soon as it made boost you just put it in top gear at 100km with the 4.11 diff gears, they were way to short. So in the next couple of weeks i put 3.45's in it it was MUCH better, it pulled so much harder and the motor used all the gears now. But traction was a major problem, I tried mt/ ets streets , they didn't work, then i thought my last car hooked on retreads good, so put them on at 15psi and it full hooked Jeepers creepers it was quick! I'll update the rest of the story with pictures later, nowi know this is up and with what i am doing now cheer darren Anyways... it didn't take that long for transmission probs to surface, with something in 2nd gear exploding. It was back to Mv for a month while he sorted out making a heavier duty part. Back on the road and the car was good for a while until the trans started slipping again( turned out eventually it was a blown torque converter). About this time, my wife got pregnant with our first child. As well as this car, i was building a street/drag ke20 corolla, it had a 6 point cage/13B turbo/jerico dogbox/ Gt 72 q trim turbo setup with the aim of running low 9's and 10's in street trim. We needed another family car, so i decided to part the corolla out and sell all the bits and keep the R31 for myself as it was a driveable 70 percent complete project and finish it properly and with the change get to get a good family car, otherwise i knew once we where on one wage, nothing would get completed . So it sort of turned into a rush for the next couple of months, the back of the car had been smashed into in a carpark by a clown driving a porsche with no insurance, not really keen to pay for his damages, a nighttime visit to his house changed his mind. I then had the car painted by my mate Tony He fitted the bonnet vent for me, he also fitted the GT autospoiler, series 2 import rear taillights, series2 silhoutte rear spoiler, series3 Gts coupe grille( that was a find and super rare), he colour coded all the bumpers and panels. He also smacked out the inner rear guards to fit my new rims. I bought some driftteks 17x7 and 17x9, with 275/40 et street drag radials, they just fit, clearing the rear trailing arm by 3mm. I drove the car around for a couple of months, went to vic and back in it with the family and my mum. went on a few cruises with the family( and over 1000km in pissing down rain with not one hint of the m/t et streets EVER feeling slippery, so its earned it stripes as a TRUE 10 sec street car. I eventually got sick of the trans and was adjusting to family life when the rago ran out. So i took it of the road to save for a trans. 6 months later after finally selling the last of my corolla **** i could afford a new trans. Not wanting to stuff around, i purchased a 1000hp KEAS powerglide/converter through kyle 6/boost. When it arrived the boostworx fitted it all up and got it running after heaps of niggling problems that keas came to the party and payed for( top service). Shaun redynoed it and it made 370rwkw on 23psi with the glide, after a month or so, i fitted my water injection system i had laying around the whole time and redynoed. On 26psi it made 471rwkw with heaps more in it, and me screaming no more, no more and shaun laughing as it would go over 500rwkw easy he said. I was worried about a stock bottom end come flying out ha,ha. Now if was terrifying to drive..i loved it , but mt's literally lasted 3 days from roll ons and left 200-300m lines as long as you held the throttle, at 200km it would literally need 2-3 lanes and a least 4-5 people in the car to hook up so.... Back to square one again, i have always stopped making power everytime the car had not traction, worked out a way around it, and then put more boost in it again and then changed stuff, got it hooking, and then turned it up again etc. So after to talking to kyle/6 boost he mentioned try some adjustable upper control arms, so shaun at boost worx fabbed some up and fitted them, At the same time i found some 15x7 inch rims to fit my old 26x8.5 et streets(Mike at mv's autos said they were bowing on my 15x6 silhoutte rims and thats why they never hooked, only half touches the ground. finish this later cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

So i refitted my rag 26x 8.5 et's, and took it for a drive, holy mother of god! full traction from 60km roll, it was awesome it could easily do with another 20-30rwkw with those tyres, the thing just pinned you in the seat, and in under 9 secs from a 60km roll its on the limiter at 145+mph. it was ridicilous. I drove around like that for 3 days, before deciding to go to heathcote. Organised to pick up a 4wd tow car and trailer from across the other side of town, so i thought i would drive it over there and put it on the trailer and tow it back home ready to go. I got on to a certain piece stretch of road, gave it a hammering and it went BOOM. And then dropped a couple of cylinders, noticed the voltage was extremely low on the handset. ( worked out pretty quick that there wasn't enough voltage for the 2 fuel pumps, it switched 1 of which made a massive lean backfire at 26psi and around 700hp on cast pistons..ouch!). Car just stopped, so i left it there, got a lift and bought the tow car back and trailered it up to the wreckers( was 4pm on a sat) to get a alternator. Can't be bothered talking about the rest still ****s me off... so here it is: http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showth...ghlight=140mph (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=105887&highlight=140mph) So that left me at a loose end, as i had to build another motor..and pay for it. The car sat( and still is sitting) for 6 months before i even pulled the motor out. I ended up starting my own business( i am a painter and decorator) and work picked up so i could start to think about it again. I had a Rb26 head/plenum, but i figured the setup i had was enough, just do rods/pistons/big valves and bump up comp to 8.5 from 7.4 and leave it at that. So i sold the head and bought some spools rods and cp's(thanks kyle/6 boost again), he talked me into going slighty larger with the cam aswell. i sold my rims to pay for engine machining( as 17's are pointless for traction, and i don't care what it looks like now), and bought some convo pros for the front. In between somewhere i also fitted R32 Gtst brakes and 90/10 front shocks. Anyway i struggled to leave it at that , ha, ha, ha , i got bored so now the head is ported/big valves(awaiting flow benching), i purchased a JPC plenum and 90mm throttle body, everything is machined, turbo is receiving a borg warner billet comp wheel/big comp cover i am just waiting for a new oil pump to come back( the motor when it let go, went through the pump and pitted the gears ).... I am trying to build a race pump fuel motor, a fair bit of comp, a largish cam a top endy plenum,( as revs= power) but haveacompressor that gives it best on pump fuel boost levels( and better with water injection). I don't give a rats arse about race fuel , i will give it my best shot on pump fuel, and then when thats done, if it doesn't make enough i will spike it with toluene( and tell everyone) and then finally try race fuel. Hopefully i haven't stuffed up what was a sweet setup which was: Garrett GT4245 - .91 A/R / 94mm exducer (Rated to 850hp) Roller bearing turbo Turbo smart 48mm external waste gate 6Boost (Kyle) custom exhaust manifold Screamer pipe Microtech LTx12 Bosch 6 coil set up Sard gtr 700cc injectors ARC GTR 600mm x 300mm x 100mm intercooler Tomei Head Gasket ARP Head Stud Kit LukeVL 272 camshaft( 220 at .50) Adjustable cam gear JD Plenum (On n/a runners) / XF Throttle Body Ported Head (MaceRace) Precision Hypertech Pistons :7.4.1compression total Bosch 984 Fuel Pumps x 2 3500rpm TCE converter/ keas glide 3.45 gears/mini spool water injection This would be a stomper setup with 8.5 compression, thats about all i would change, probally one of the ultimate Rb30 sohc street setups, for spool and power. Don't think a gt4202,1000hp turbo will be a better thing, it will for race fuel, but the Rb30 doesn't really swallow enough air to be the bestpump fuel combo and would probally make less power ( or at least less average power, which is what acceralates a car the fastest.) Thanks to shaun/troy at boostworx/ kyle 6boost, my wife , and anyone else that helped. I'' get some more pics up and update as i rebuild it cheers darren The goal is 9.6 at 145-146mph on straight pump fuel and et streets( i would love to do it on the 275/60/15's radials, but if not i will go with the rags) I have no idea if this is possible..maybe not?, but thats my goal i have set. I would love to drive to a track, run 9's and drive home, without touching anything but the tyre pressure. cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Update: JPC solid cam, adjustable rockers, b-hive valve springs and retainers have been purchased. The convo don't fit, so have ordered a outboard hub conversion to bring the offset in. And the interior has been sent of to have the seats done in dark grey fake leather( some vinyl **** which is soft like leather and has the leather grain) with, leather and darkgrey velour doortrims, with speaker pods, hopefully modernise the lego block abit , get pictures up when i get interior back cheers darren And a MW CDI so i can turn the water injection up now, woo, hoo so all engine parts have been finally purchased Quote: Originally Posted by Jet R31 Update: JPC solid cam, adjustable rockers, b-hive valve springs and retainers have been purchased. Got my water injection system calibrated yesterday, it flowed 705ml per minute at 26psi how boostworx set it up, Or so super safe and water loaded that with the 11.5 A/F ratios it had and the conservative timing, it would have lasted forever if the alternator didn't **** itself , had ALOT more scope for boost at that water/fuel ratio level. The next motor will have a volts gauge, ha,ha, and a AFR meter mounted permantly in the car, and a Knock link, just for safety. Heres a link to a really top quality AFR ratio gauge, converts in australian dollars not to bad: http://airfuelratio.com/ and to peter from Rice racing and his water injection kits: if you want a properly calibrated water injection that uses no pumps and can be used from 200hp up to 900+hp, and has all the little tricks( and there is a few trust me, ) peter is your man http://riceracing.com.au/ cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
