Is the VLT scene slowly losing its popularity?

I see next to stuff all VLT's on the road these days (and I do always keep my eye out), why is this? Are they just not as popular anymore? or are too many people getting busted for driving them? opinions please

I hope its not dying!!! I do wan't to sell my project one day haha. In all honesty though I don't think its dying, look at the drag scene it's absolutely hammering Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i agree seen alot less vlt's around lately , id say the turbo restriction laws are a big factor in this

In Melbourne i think the VL sence is slowy dieing reason being the new Laws also cops come down hard on the VLT drivers its sad but slowly there will be less on The roads, i dont see many around anymore i think people are to scared to drive them.

i reckon its abit of yours and Calais_Nv statements.... turbo restrictions and too many ppl getting busted for then... so most just maybe sit at home for cruises of good nites

i disagree totally. chicks love VLs more than ever. (i have physical proof) ppl are just paranoid to drive them - that and the weather has been crap. i wont take mine out if its bucketing down for a week.

IMO I think the total opposite. I reckon the VLT scene is alive & well... More & more VLT's are being built exclusively for the track or show scene, hardly seeing any road use at all. Those that are driven on the road have been modified so much that the owners fear the risk of theft hence seeing very little street time (that combined with weather, P plate laws & price of fuel). ^^ i agree. i wont take mine out if i cant park it somewhere where i can see it. plus the more i dont drive it, the longer my mullet gets Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ok I should have rephrased my statement, I mean the street scene. Not everyone that owns a VLT is modifying it to race at the track, so where are they all. No use spending countless money on it, if it isn't on the street.

No use spending countless money on it, if it isn't on the street. it just comes down to how determined you are. i mean think about it.. most people that have poured bucketloads of cash into a nice VLT have a daily driver aswell.. so if you think about it realistically, more often than not - the majority of the time they spend on the street is in their daily instead of their VL.. it doesnt mean that the scene is dying down, it just means they want to protect their creation and not put it in harms way, and save it for a nice drive on a weekend. which is exactly my logic - so i guess im talking from experience. and ive been building my car up for the past what, 5 years now, and i really have no intention of taking it to the track - maybe when my new setup is in i'll take it for a couple of runs, but thats it. ive been building it with the intention of having a mint show quality street VL. and in my opinion.. i mean if anything i think thats good for the scene. id rather see a few mint VLs very sparingly rather than all the time - cause when you do see them its much more of a thrill and surprise. plus all these 16 year old muzzas doing up rustbucket VLs only makes ours look that much better anyway lol i know i know WTF, right? a logical, serious response from dixie. what gives?

I think the WHOLE scene has died off a fair bit. Not just VLs in general. Look back to when we had that really hot weather in January.. sandown park hotel was CHOCKERS with cars.. the highway was glorious. The following week there was the noble park riot. Since then its been dead. I think alot of people are worried about taking thier cars out on the highway (I havnt been once in 6 months since I got defected), none of my mates etc... whereas it used to be EVERY single friday night thats what we would do. I think youll see a huge increase in the general car scene come summer and warmer weather along with daylight savings.

with the p plater laws, i reckon the entire modified car scene has changed a fair bit. i was talking to a guy the other day that is having trouble selling his turbo import, he reckons because p platers can't drive them legally its hard to sell. which is a fair call i reckon. and by the time the guys can drive them, they may have gotten over them a little. unsure if this relates the vlt scene the same way. there hasn't been all that many for sale however, if the scene was dying, wouldn't everyone be offloading them, they must be all hidden away? the amount of money VT onwards commodores are fetching at auction is still very high IMHO, they must be selling those alot to p platers that want some go but legally.

RB30-POWER & TWO89 you both make really valid points i think the VLT scene in particular - not the modified car scene as a whole, (because i think modifying anything other than a VL is a total waste of time and money lol) is as big and as fun as it ever has been - not because of all the ballbreaking we go through with cops/vicroads/epa/ridiculous legislation - but in spite of it... the prices of VLTs has increased, and in turn the amount of good ones for sale has decreased, and not to mention the overall boom on the price of OG bt1's in the last year or so. i forgot what i was gonna say.

I agree Dix, i've got a daliy. I could drive my VL every day, but sometimes i look at the sky and think....mite rain 2day, better take the ****ter. lol. I also have no real big desire to race mine, just good to crusie on nice days and scare the sh** out of a few HSV/GT drivers every now and then.
