Has anyone seen this system?
CAT. NO. KC5442 RRP $89.95
Programmable High Energy Ignition System
Refer Silicon Chip
This is Silicon Chip's most advanced and versatile ignition system yet and can be used on both two & four stroke engines. The system can be used simply to intercept and modify the factory ignition timing or turned into a stand alone ignition system with remapped timing, electronic coil control and anti-knock sensing. The unit will trigger from a range of sources including points, Hall effect sensors, optical sensors, or the 5 volt signal from the car's ECU. Timing can be mapped against engine load and RPM and adjusted in step as small as 0.5.
Features:
> Timing retard & advance over a wide range
> Suitable for single coil systems
> Dwell adjustment
> Single or dual mapping ranges
> Two de-bounce settings
> Max & min RPM adjustment
> Suits 1 to 12 cylinder four stroke engines and 1 to 6 cylinder two stroke engines
> Optional knock sensing & correction
QTY
1+ $89.95
5+ $80.95
Does anyone know if this would be compatible for a dedicated LPG setup for the ignition side of things?

Theres a guy on my website who wants to use this for his gas turbo 250. He hasnt yet put it into reality but it can work

hmm almost sounds too good to be true for the price? lol
sounds like a CDI would still need to be run, but if the kit above does wat it says it can do then sounds pretty good!
edit - does anyone know of one of these units being used?
would be good to get some feedback

I emailed john (the designer) about producing an ignition timing kit a few years ago.
I'v had one for a while now, works well for the $$$.
It would be good for petrol aswell.
As it says, it changes timing against engine load, using a map sensor or just your afm.
I'v tuned it to advance the timing up to an additional 12 deg off boost.
You can switch between two maps, so you can see what change it's making.
It brings boost on a bit quicker, and feels better off boost/more responsive.
i use it with a crane ignition booster.
So with buying one of those it's not that cheap overall.
If you have not made a few kits before then it might be hard and time consuming to make. If you make one mistake then it wont work.
Cheers

awesome cheers for the feedback
thats basically exactly wat im looking for to team up with a CDI unit as i have no engine managment at all....just the distributor

Who fitted and tuned it and was it very difficult?

Had the a/f ratios done on a dyno a few years ago.
I installed it. Not too hard but i do some soldering/electronics for work(sound engineer)
I make electronic kits up and work on my car as a hobby.
I do everything to my car that i can, other wise i'd buy a new car that needs no work!
I tuned the ignition by just getting my brother to drive as i watched the engine load, boost and rpm.
As the way i set mine up is just modifying the original curve, you can't go to wrong as long as it's not advancing much while hitting boost.
Just make sure you don't cause any detonation.
The original ignition curve is ok, it's just that once you have some mods, you need to get on boost quicker.
With a cooler you can advance the timing (off boost) a fair bit for better throttle response.

hows it tuned?
just plugs into laptop?

Hand controller mate, only $60.
You have to make it too. It's not much soldering just time consuming fiddling around with the case and lcd screen.

How much was it overall? with the map sensor and other bits you need.
Sounds like a cheap option.

30-01-08, 20:52 GMT+10#13 man you cant really compare a CDI unit to programmable ignition.
i understand where your coming from and sure they may share some similarities but both units are designed for different things...

31-01-08, 18:44 GMT+10#14 I know of a guy that used it. It sounded like a pretty good thing to me for the $$$$
But I spose like anything its how much effort you put in that regulates what you get out.

The programmable ignition part of the this kit shares NO comparison to a crane hi6. It's adjusting ignition timing NOT boosting spark
You use this WITH a crane hi6 and coil if you want, like i do.
Yes it's cheap, but if you made any "brand name" designed computer circuit yourself it would be cheap.

exactly what i had thought and exactly what i plan to do. if it doesnt work out, so be it. we have no need for fuel control so its a waste spending big bucks on a full ECU.
do you have the 2 units running?
got any feedback for us?

Yep, have had both running for a while now. All going well.
It gets the gas running the same as the off boost torque of petrol.
I have it getting up to 13 deg advance (over std) off boost/low revs, and standard 0 deg adjustment on boost and cruising.
