Hey fellas i know i have a VL calais 8, but seeing as my question has nothing to do with motors and this thread gets the most views i have decided to post here. Just curious to know peoples opinions on them D mould plastic chromed strips you can buy in metres with the double sided tape, has any one used them on thier calais? I have most original chrome strips but since some prick flogged a couple, and needing a ridiculous amount to buy second hand ones (if you can find them) im thinking about taking the originals off and going around the whole car with these D moulds. I know the originals would look better but i reckon the stick on ones wouldnt look too bad, can any one also post up pics if they are using them, cheers

PM me for details.
Cheers
Edit: Kits are $85 posted anywhere in Aus.

So far so good, looks good but how do you get them on straight, just use the eye or any long rulers?

They are so easy to do yourself, just hold them tight and follow the line of your mould. But once they are on they are stuck for good. Any panel shop would be able to put them on for you too.

07-09-07, 06:36 GMT+10#14 Good idea, might chuck in an order shortly myself. I'm missing the one at the front of the driver's rear door, the driver's door has lifted and kinked a bit, don't think it would sit right again. The rest are there an in good nic, so I'll have a look and see what's best to do. Like the stick on idea, they shouldn't go walkabout from any carparks. Getting bottom half of car resprayed in the next few months, so might just dechrome it and go the stick ons. Hmmmm, more decisions.
vlcalais8: Thanks for this thread, has made a few of us aware of the alternative.

07-09-07, 14:18 GMT+10#15 No worries, it bugs me that any parts for VL Calais are becoming harder to get, and if some guys selling them they want stupidly high prices. even the private selling guys are catching on. Long are the days where you could get a good rear garnish for 30 bucks, chrome strips for 10 bucks, interior trims for 30 bucks etc etc. I would love my car to be fully original, but heck at the end of the day its just a VL and any cheap alternative that gives the goods is worth it. If i had a original GTHO phase 3 then I'd think about paying 600 bucks for 3 original badges (another joke on Ebay)...

08-09-07, 10:22 GMT+10#17 Well got my cousin whos a panel beater/sprayer to get some d mould strips and wack them on for me, they came up a treat and I HIGHLY recommend any one thinking about this to do it. They stand out more than the originals and are 10 times more reflective. I had a bit left over so I tried one wheel arch, I could have done it in my sleep and it looks tops too. Ill try get some pics up

I bought my Calais with D moulds already on. Do you put them over the joins around the front and rear bars or do you put them on piece by piece like factory?

08-09-07, 17:14 GMT+10#19 You can have it either way mate, I've put mine on so the that front and rears are one big piece that goes around to the doors.
You can see the cleary there.
