I converted my NA to turbo last weekend and i cant get any boost. i'm using the NA intake manifold, so is there anything i have to modify in order for it to hold boost?

What did/didn't you change? Do you mean the wastegate is opening before it builds any boost? If so, have you hooked up the actuator vacuum line properly?

i changed everything except the intake manifold. injectors, computer, exhaust etc. the wastegate is alright im pretty sure. its just losing all of the boost somewhere in the intake manifold

if you cant get ANY boost it could be a couple of things.. Chances are if you bought one of those sick monsta kits off ebay your turbo has siezed.. pull the piping off the front of the compressor and see if its not jammed.. DID you crank the car to build up oil pressure in the turbo beforey you started the car? If its not that your wastegate my be stuck open and thus making the turbo not spool up at all.. pull the wastegate off and check that its not jammed and pull right apart to see if the diaphragm is not ripped or damaged!

its all just stock vlt gear. it does spool up nicely but as soon as it starts getting pressure it just runs badly

Perhaps the actuator has had it.

i can hear and feel it spool up to (im guessing) just off vacuum and then it just wont get anymore pressure. so the actuator and wastegate are working alright i think

WTF! you orignally said its getting no boost.. but your saying its getting little boost say like 3psi and when you hold it flat its coughs and splatters? If this is the case it sounds like your internal gate is having problems.. Could still be your diaphram being split.. One way you can see if you get more boost you can disconnect the line off the wastegate actuator (both) and go for a drive but dont hold it flat otherwise you will overboost your motor!

ha ha i said its not getting any BOOST. boost is positive intake pressure and it only getting to even pressure. i'll give it go! thanks

thanks timmo i know what boost is.. but usually if its spooling up its getting boost! Sounds like an actuator problem! Cant really think of anythign else!

I'm not sure of the flow ratio for boost on the n/a for fuel flow but, I can guess that it wont go up that much before maxxing out the injectors. Thats the reason the VLT injectors flow about 1.5 times as much as the N/A ones, and yeah I concur with other comments, you might have a loose actuator,

I think he means the only thing he didnt change was the inet manifold, he changed injectors ecu etc etc etc... I'd say if it will only make 0 vacuum and stops the turbo could be shagged......

Either that, or your boost gauge isn't doing its job properly.

ok! i'll have a look at the actuator. so there arent any holes in the n/a plenum that need to blocked? does anyone else have an n/a intake running on their turbo?

This might sound dumb, but have you tightened all of your hose clamps on the cross over pipe? Are you running an intercooler, or strictly standard VLT gear (excluding VLT intake manifold/plenum)? Maybe a clamp is loose and you're losing any boost above 3 psi there! I've got a VG30DET actuator spare if you want to try that. Can't remember if it'll fit...

Lets put it this way, there are no pressure valves in the n/a plenum, otherwise if you had holes they wouldnt let there be vacuum would there ? So yeah, the n/a will easily hold all the pressure your T3 can put out, though you might want to put cable ties or clamps over the line to the regulator as its only a slip-on - there are others too. But those minor leaks wont result in loss of boost, your problem points to the turbo, its waste gate actuator being loose, some big exhaust restriction or some sizable intake restriction... But hey, your grammer suggests you didnt change injectors, can you clarify ?

Looks like he changed everything (including injectors) except the intake manifold/plenum.

Sorry if i wasnt clear. Everything has been changed except for the intake manifold. Thanks for the info! i'll check the actuator and intake joiners for leaks tonight. it doesnt have an intercooler just crossover.

dude i am running the NA manifold and i run my turbo which pushes air thru the intercooelr thru an xf tb into the maniflld (i had no problems when i started it).. but yeh it just soudns like actuator/daiphragm problem..
