hey im goin to run my car down the 1/4 to c wat time it gets jus curious on wat i should use for tyres??? i no slicks are the way to go but i dont wanna go out and buy a set for a couple of runs and that its.... ive got 19's and i think they 8.5 across on there at the moment... would i be better off using them or get some other stockies and let the tyre pressure down abit??????????? and also im just after advise and a few tips from people that have run their cars... thanks

stockies, 19s will be pathetic for traction no sidewalls!

well you haven't told us about your car at all. manual/auto stall? what size turbo and gears etc etc. stockies would be the best bet. no point burning up expensive 19's for a few runs. and yes let the tyre pressure down a bit. If your car is an auto with a stall then dont look at the tacho when launching just try keep an eye on the boost guage and get the thing on boost before leaving the line. My first time out i went from a 14.00 to a 13.1 just by stalling up and have since improved to a 12.6 on stockies without changing a thing on the car. 1 run with slicks i went 12.51 but backed off 3 quarter track as the car was shaking really hard. it should have went around 12.1-12.2 as the say though practice makes perfect and dont expect too much on ya first time there and just enjoy it.

Try different tire pressures, maybe start at 22psi and work your way up to 30psi. What psi do the drag strip guys use?

i used 27psi on 205 street tyres on a 2800 stall seemed ok next time ill try 25 psi for a bit more grip

You've spent all that money on the car to get the best out of it, so why not just hang out for abit until you can afford to prep the car properly for the track. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

normal street tyres are biggest waste of time when racing

well being a manual and with the mods etc you'd be pushing 300kw at least huh? manual you'll be skating down the track get some decent rubber for that amount of power even some street slicks would be much better then stockies.

There is satisfaction to be had running a quick et on street radials tho.. like proper street radials. i can do 1.9 60ft's on pretty ****ed 205 re88's.... just have to launch on the most boost possible without inducing too much wheelspin... easy
