hey guys i just bought a vs calais series 2. i checked the stacker and i dont think this looks quite right...

im no expert on car audio equipment but im pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to see the internals like that...and i doubt a cd will be able to be played like that...i sure as hell havnt been able to get it to play.
luckily i did buy the car from a dealer so i can still get help from there and i am going to call him next week to ask about the stacker and a few other things...but i thought i should ask here to get as much info as possible and incase the dealer cant do anything about it...some of you guys might be able to point me in the right direction to get this problem sorted. normally i would check the manual...but there is a seperate manual for operating the cd player, stacker etc...and i am missing that manual which is something else ill be speaking to the dealer about.
the stacker is a eurovox and being in a 10 year old car i dont think its as simple as phoning them up and getting a replacement or whatever...if the dealer cant offer any help with the problem does anyone here know what i need to do and/or where i need to go to fix this problem? the whole car is stock and in great condition so this stacker thing is a bit of a shame. since there is no cd player in the car, just a tape deck...and i wont be getting a headunit for another coulple weeks...it kinda sucks that i wont have any of my music to cruise around with...
can anyone shed any light on this situation? might sound like a dumbass question to some of you lol. and i know i am a new user...i just got my car today so i dont expect anyone to go out of their way to help me out since im completely unknown on this site...but any help will be greatly appreciated...oh and i live in melbournes south east suburbs...
cheers...thanx in advance...adz

thanks for the reply...yeah it has the normal cover that slides across...but thats got nothing to do with getting cds in there.
when i first looked at it i thought it wasnt right...but i tried some cds anyway...not only is it totally inconvenient and awkward to get a cd in and out of there...but there is no way for the cd to stay secure...its gotta be wrong.
it must have some kind of tray missing or something...keep in mind i havnt done anything at all to the stacker...all i did was open the boot to look at it...and this is how i found it. its doing my head in coz i cant play my tunes...and ive got about 50cds that are just sitting in my car now.
once i get my headunit it wont be as much of an issue...but id still like a functioning stacker...10 full mp3 cds is great whenever i dont have my ipod with me in the car.
anyone know what i need to do?

lol...thats all thats there...i got nothing to put in...thats the problem lol...you're all probably reading this thinking "this c*** hasnt got a clue" lol coz i know its obvious something is missing...and i definitely should have checked the stacker before the dealer left (he delivered the car to my house) so its partly my fault...was just a bit of a bummer getting ready to go for the first spin in my new (and first) ride...and not being able to play some music...instead i get stuck some bull**** kylie minogue and that sissy mika character.
thanks for the reply too...
yeah not sure about the commodore ones in particular but most stackers theres a cage/caset type thing that the CD's go into then that slots into the stacker, from memory when we had to replace the one in our ford years ago they wanted like 150 for just the caset, but like you said if ya planning on putting in a after market head unit the stacker wont be much good to you and you can pick up a cheap mp3 deck for around 200 so it might not be worth it.... up to you

The only people i would go to are the dealer, you paid for a car with CD-Player, if you cant play 'cd-s' then you've been cut short.
Call them, go with the paper work and the car and show them
You can take an easy way out, find a wrecker who has ripped 1 out.. But highly unlikely they will just sell you the internal stacker.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
hey dude,
you are missing the cassette that holds the 10 discs, if i were you i'd ditch the stacker and get a nice mp3 deck, you won't be able to retain the stacker with a new deck anyways and if you could it wouldn't do mp3,
so id get a deck that has mp3, ipod and aux in so that way you can run ipod/mp3 players.
Eurovox replacement parts are not cheap, your aftermarket stuff is much better quality sound wise and feature wise.
hope this helps.
hey thanks for all the replies guys. very helpful...
so no way the stacker will be compatible with an aftermarket headunit? what a shame. yeah and i realised even if it did work...it wouldnt play mp3 discs anyways...dunno what i was thinking when i typed that.
to TNONIO...yeah were going to fax all our questions/issues to the dealer just so we get everything in writing. i would go to a wreckers...since since i will be getting a headunit one way or another...not sure theres any point now. im planning to keep the car for a while so
USH thanks for the offer buddy. ill keep it in mind but since the stacker wont be much good when i get a new headunit anyways i dont think i need to go through the trouble at the moment. thanks anyways though.
and Blue_VL...yeah thats what im doing. im getting a pioneer 7950ub headunit. plays cds, mp3s, usb and ipod etc...the works. and i assume with output of 4x50w and 3 RCA pre-outs...its a good foundation for when i start to build the sound system.
thanks for all your help guys...appreciate it.
so since the stacker is pretty much out the window...anyone got an opinion of the pioneer 7950ub? i dont know too much about car audio (obviously) and i plan to have a decent sound system eventually (nothing fancy, probably just replace the front door speakers and parcel shelf speakers and get a 12" sub) so is that headunit a good start?
and since theres not much point starting a new topic about it...
i made a topic in the "others readers cars" section on saturday night about my new calais...a bit of a story and a bunch of pics...but it hasnt appeared in that forum yet. i know it needs to be reviewed by the moderator before its posted but does it usually take this long? unless i just cant find it lol...id hate to have to type it all out again.
thanks again guys for all the help.
