Gday everyone, Just in the process of upgrading my clutch and have opted for a button clutch with a sprung centre. Have i made the right decision? Anyone got one of these or had an experience with one of these style clutches?? Pros/Cons etc.. Cheers!

Better off getting a heavy duty clutch and then have the pressure plate sent off to be re-tensioned/torqued or what ever it is that gets done... It was what I was gonna get my stock clutch done (to about 3500lbs) but decided to buy a new heavu duty, and start with a fresh one and then get it retorqued later down the track. Direct Clutches does it up here... Not sure about anywhere else

never had a problem with a button, it depends on the style of driving you do, traffic, daily driver etc.

My stock clutch is starting to get a little smelly after driving for a while so i will also be in-need of a new clutch soon. A guy has recommed a heavy duty cushion clutch. Thinks it will set me back over a grand for something that will handle decent power(that's installed). Does this sound rite?

when you say cushioned button i assume it is with a sprung centre and not a solid centre? Ive purchased a clutch industries RPM clutch. Made by pbr( so says the box anyway) was $566 trade. Gonna install it all hopefully by friday. Im interested into what to expect. I love manuals so im sure i wont find it too much of a b!tch. I like the sound of it being very driveable!!

My brand new heavy duty clutch kit cost me $350 which included flywheel machining, postage and the usual clutch plate, pressure plate and throwout bearing...

Yer skybt1 i mean the sprung centre. So this guy that was gonna charge me over $1000 for a clutch. What do you supose he had in mind of putting in there. He said the clutch he was goin to put in would take just about anything i could through at it?!? But for over a grand....i feel a s***load of money could be saved by putting a Exedy heavy duty cushioned clutch in yes? And this would still give be able to handle some decent power?

get the excedy brass button with the sprung centre.... great clutches i have had 2 now, and the 1st one there was nothing wrong with it i sold it to another member off here coz i didnt wanna put a second hand clutch back in with my new engine setup when i had it built... they drive almost like a normal clutch, except they grab a hell of a lot quicker, but not as quick as a full solid centre. i get them for a good price through mates too so ive never had to complain about price..

I've been quoted 750 for a exedy heavy duty clutch installed and the button clutch was roughly the same price. I'm not sure on the price for a sprung centre button clutch but over $1000 sounds a bit excessive.

Sounds like hes gonna charge you full retail for the clutch plus labour etc.. I reckon you shop around, see if you can buy the clutch before you take it to a mechanic. Depending on how much power you are thinkin of pushing. Sounds like a cushioned button is not so harsh after all. Its just got a lot more bite to it! But definately stay away from a solid button..

a cushioned botton is a Dampened Centre, cushioned segment between lining, Multiple sintered button lining bonded to steel backing. Sintered lining offers greater torque capacity, much higher coefficient of friction and higher heat stability and dissipation. Offers great driveability with the advantages of using a sintered lining, relatively smooth and positive engagement, suited for street and sprint use. you have the choice of dampend and solid centers ie springs or no springs. and then a cushioned or solid backing (this part makes it not so on/off as the facings have some cushion between them) however i dont see a cushioned button holding 300rwkw, i was looking to get one for my car and did lots of research and found about 250kw is what it will hold
