hey everyone|
Just put new silicion hoses and changed my intercooler piping around abit and put it all back together, now the car seems to splatter under boost every now and then. Its realy pissing me off, ive cleaned the AFM, CAS plugs and still the same, any help would be appreciated. thanx

if its surging like you say maybe fuel supply is a problem, check your fuel pressure, maybe clean the intank strainer and change in inline filter too.

Im pretty sure that the fuel pressure is ok, maybe its the filter like you said im gonna have to have another look. thanx

yeah because there inline if they get some crap in them they restrict the flow pretty bad, also check for boost leaks and that your wastegate actuator is working ok.
could be tons of stuff but heres hoping its simple.

yep i see what your saying, boost is all good no leaks and acuator is ok, i hope its something small like the filter.

Its still a no go, got some new symptoms now blows black smoke, on 10psi instead of 13psi and splatering all over the place. Any 1 got anymore ideas?

Where have you put your AFM now?

well last time my turbo car blew alot of black smoke and had no guts was when the turbo died on me a couple of months ago - still trying to fix all the other problem that occured with it.
so pull out the o2 sensor and check for any residue on it.

28-08-07, 00:26 GMT+10#10 Black smoke means rich running, AFM and CTS both capable of getting ECU
to overfuel... If it only happens on hard acceleration then TPS connections
might be flakey, TPS sends pulse to ECU to add fuel on fast changes in
throttle but it *adds* that figure to the AFM reading (in general), so that
means if AFM cal screw set to rich and TPS a bit iffy then will get much
more fuel making for black smoke and sputtering due to mixture too rich to
fire properly, also suggest check connectors on AFm and if you are still trying
s/h AFM's of which there are many more faulty ones around now, see if you can
borrow a new one and clean/check connections and loom between AFM and ECU etc...

28-08-07, 14:09 GMT+10#11 Just pulled the plugs off and it was white which means its running lean, car had a full dyno tune bout 4months ago. Im starting to think it could be my 1 of my pumps or something simple such as the fuel filter. I have cheaked all my connections like u said Niche still the same.

28-08-07, 14:58 GMT+10#12 It wont take long for plugs to get cleaned by a short burst of normal or lean
running after a period of very rich running...
If when boosting you have an air leak somewhere, the engine will get a bit
less air then it needs for that amount of fuel, so at that particular time it
will be momentarily rich add to that a possible flakey TPS which tells the ECU
to inject extra pulses when accelerating then you have fairly good logic telling
you its either TPS or a combination of TPS and air leak on boost.
Depending on where the air leak is and the pressures involved it can be quite
hard to find. The only way to be sure is pressurise the whole intake with
a compressor that has a low regulator setting (so you dont pop anything)...
Actually you might have it both transiently being rich during that moment of
acceleration re TPS and air leak - then immediately afterwards it splutters
because its then lean for a short period - because, I guess, the burst of fuel
you just got takes a short time for the fuel system to re-supply to full pressure
again. So in that case you have two faults or rather a rich symptom that
masks the real fault.
So need to do a couple of things:-
a. Check for air leaks
b. Give fuel system a good going over,
- check voltage on pump when on boost, ie Run a pair of
wires from under car in parallel with pump to a meter inside passenger cabin
so your mate can watch it when you gun it.
- check low pressure pump, because high pressure one might cavitate if low
pressure one cant supply the burst - a surge tank might help there, actually
that might be a great help if you are running higher boost.
- Fuel pressure regulator might not hold higher pressure with respect to manifold and could be transiently bypassing after the black smoke burst...

29-08-07, 18:16 GMT+10#13 Splattering problem fixed, i cleaned out all the electrical plugs with contact cleaner so far so good. The only problem now is that its running lean and my boost is set to 13psi but running no more then 11psi, suspect that my acuator is on its way?

29-08-07, 18:46 GMT+10#14 if ur boost controller is set at 13psi and ur only getting 11psi at the plenum it could be a leak in ur cooler system, dodgy controller or dodgy actuator

Well ive got the new turbosmart boost - T which is pretty good, my acuator was not bad aswell so ill definetly be looking for a boost leak in the cooler system
